heiress of the large estate of her father, Abel King, who was for many years a leading business man in Suffield, Conn., Miss. King became familiar with business methods under his instruction and so capable did she prove to be as a pupil that in his later years he regarded her as a valued adviser. After his death she took personal control of her business affairs, managing them with rare skill and discretion, her securities being among the most desirable held in the town. To a careful education obtained in the Connecticut Literary Institute at Suffield, she added a liberal course of reading, and, as her summers were always spent in travel, she learned much by observation, giving her a most intelligent view of life and making her conversation full of interest. She was prominent in the best social circles of Suffield and was a generous contributor to local philanthropies and to the work of the Baptist Church of which her parents were also members. Among other organizations to which she belonged was the Suffield Woman's Club. She was a charter member of Sybil Dwight Kent Chapter of D. A. R., her number in the order being 15,464, and she was the historian of that chapter until her failing health compelled her to resign the office. She resided at Suffield at the time of her decease on April 16, 1907.
