The Senate met pursuant to adjournment,

Mr. Lansing presented two several petitions from sundry inhabi tants of the counties of Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence, Oswego and Oneida, praying for an act to incorporate a company to construct a rail-road from Watertown in Jefferson county, to Rome in the county of Oneida, with liberty to continue the said road to some point on Lake Ontario or the River St. Lawrence, with a capital of $500,000; which were read, and referred to the committee on rail-roads. Mr. Westcott, from the committee on roads and bridges, reported without amendment the bill from the Assembly, entitled "An act to revive and amend the act entitled 'An act to authorise the building of a toll bridge over the Hudson river,' passed 2d April, 1825, and the act amendatory thereof, passed May 2, 1829;" which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent, was also read a second time, and committed to a cominittee of the whole.

Mr. Fuller, from the select committee on the bill from the Assembly, entitled "An act authorising the board of supervisors of the county of Monroe to raise money to complete the jail of said coun[SENATE JOURNAL.]

ty," reported the same without amendment; which was committed to a committee of the whole.

A report was received from the superintendent of the salt springs; which was read, and referred to the committee on finance.

On motion of Mr. Allen,

Ordered, That double the usual number of copies of the report of the superintendent of the state prison at Mount-Pleasant be printed.

Mr. Seward, from the committee on enrolled bills, reported the bill entitled "An act concerning loan-offices in the city and county of New-York," as correctly engrossed.

Thereupon,

The said engrossed bill was read the third time and passed.

The engrossed bill, entitled "An act to incorporate the Newburgh whaling company," was read the third time and passed; two-thirds of all the members elected to the Senate voting in favor thereof, as follows, to wit:

Ordered, That the clerk deliver said bills to the Assembly, and request their concurrence to the same.

The Senate then again resolved itself into a committee of the whole, on the bill entitled "An act to amend and extend the act entitled 'An act to incorporate the Sodus Bay bridge company,' passed April 9, 1819;" and after some time spent thereon, Mr. President resumed the chair, and Mr. Hubbard, from the said committee, reported the same with amendments; which report was agreed to by the Senate, and the bill ordered to be engrossed for a third reading.

The Senate then resolved itself into a committee of the whole, on the bill entitled "An act to incorporate the Catskill and Athens turnpike road company;" and after some time spent thereon, Mr. President resumed the chair, and Mr. Dodge, from the said committee, reported the same with amendments; which report was agreed to by the Senate, and the bill ordered to be engrossed for a third reading.

The Senate then resolved itself into a committee of the whole, on the bill from the Assembly, entitled "An act to revive and amend the act entitled 'An act to authorise the building of a toll bridge over the Hudson river,' passed 2d April, 1825, and the act amendatory thereto, passed May 2d, 1829;" and after some time spent thereon, Mr. President resumed the chair, and Mr. Foster, from the said committee, reported the same without amendment; which was agreed to by the Senate, and the bill ordered to a third reading.

SATURDAY, 11 O'CLOCK, A. M.-JANUARY 14, 1832.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.

Mr. Fuller presented the petition and memorial of sundry inhabitants of Monroe, Livingston and the contiguous counties, for a railroad from Dansville to Rochester; which was read, and referred to the committee on rail-roads.

Mr. Edmonds presented the petition of Henry Thalhimer, for compensation for damages incurred in the construction of the Champlain canal; which was read, and referred to the committee on canals.

Mr. Maynard, from the committee on the incorporation of cities and villages, on the petition of the corporation of the village of Utica, reported a bill entitled "An act to incorporate the city of Utica;" which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent, was also read a second time, and committed to a committee of the whole.

Mr. Beardsley, from the committee on the judiciary, to which was referred the bill from the Assembly, entitled "An act to amend the fourth title of chapter seventh of the third part of the Revised Statutes, entitled 'Of the trial of issues of fact," " reported the same without amendment; which was committed to a committee of the whole.

Mr. Rexford, from the select committee to whom was referred the petition of Erastus Corning, Barnum Whipple and others, reported a bill entitled "An act to incorporate the Hudson river coal company;" which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent,

was also read a second time, and committed to a committee of the whole.

Mr. Foster, from the committee on enrolled bills, reported two bills as correctly engrossed, of the following titles, to wit:

"An act to incorporate the Catskill and Athens turnpike company;"

"An act to amend and extend the act entitled 'An act to incorporate the Sodus Bay bridge company,' passed April 9, 1819." Thereupon,

The Senate then resolved itself into a committee of the whole, on the bill entitled "An act to incorporate the city of Utica ;" and after some time spent thereon, Mr. President resumed the chair, and Mr. Edmonds, from the said committee, reported progress, and asked for and obtained leave to sit again.

A copy of a preamble and resolution from the Assembly was received, and read in the words following, to wit:

Mr. Otis having communicated to this House the decease of Mr. Walker, a member of the Assembly from the county of Clinton; thereupon,

Resolved, That a committee of five be appointed to make the necessary arrangements for the funeral of the deceased, and that this House will attend the same and wear the usual badge of mourning during the remainder of the session, and that the clerk of this House communicate this resolution to the honorable the Senate.

Thereupon,

On motion of Mr. McLean,

Resolved, That the Senate lament the loss the State has sustained in the death of the Hon. John Walker, member of the Assembly from the county of Clinton; and tl.at in testimony of respect for the deceased, the members of the Senate will wear the usual badge of mourning for the remainder of the session, and will in a body attend the funeral.

Resolved, That the Senate will immediately adjourn.

Then the Senate adjourned until 11 o'clock on Monday morning

next.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.

A copy of a resolution from the Assembly was read, in the words following, to wit:

Resolved, That the clerk communicate a copy of the order of arrangement for the funeral of the Hon. John Walker, late member of Assembly from the county of Clinton.

Order of Arrangement, reported by the committee of the Assembly.

The Assembly will meet in the Assembly Chamber at 3 o'clock P. M. this day, and will proceed to J. Wright's Merchant's Hotel, State-street, the late residence of the deceased.
