How to Disinfect Our Homes.

A RESUMÉ OF THE LATEST AND BEST INFORMATION ON THE HOUSEHOLD USE OF DISINFECTANTS, DEODORANTS, AND ANTISEPTICS, AND OF PRACTICAL PRECAUTIONS PREVENTIVE OF

CHOLERA AND OTHER INFECTIOUS

DISEASES.

BY B. W. PALMER, A. M., M. D.

In one Handsome 12mo Volume. Paper. Price, 25 cts.

Physicians are often asked for advice as to the best method of disinfection in scarlet fever, diphtheria, typhoid fever, yellow fever, cholera, and other diseases of a contagious or infectious nature. It is, therefore, absolutely essential to them to know what disinfectants should be used, and to be able to explain in detail how to use them. Text-books do not furnish this information, and the doctor is often at a loss how to obtain it.

Recent experiments have demonstrated the worthlessness of many disinfectants now in general use, and the futility of using even those of value in the manner in which they are usually employed. This book is

based chiefly on the recently published reports of the Committee on Disinfectants of the American Public Health Association, whose exhaustive researches and elaborate experiments have settled conclusively the relative value of the many disinfectants on the market, dispelled many popular illusions regarding these agents, and pointed out the way to their rational and effectual use.

It gives, briefly and clearly, the conclusions arrived at by the latest scientific research, shows what disinfectants are worthy of confidence, and points out how they must be used in order to prevent disease.

It supplies, therefore, just the kind of information that physicians most need and can best utilize, and to those wishing to post themselves on this important subject—which is especially important at the present time in view of the possible advent of cholera in the near future-it will be invaluable.

The price, which is merely nominal, makes its possession by every practitioner possible.

Sent, postpaid, upon receipt of price by the publisher.

READILY ELIGIBLE FOR INDUSTRIAL CULTURE OR NATURALIZATION, WITH INDICATIONS OF THEIR NATIVE COUNTRIES,

AND SOME OF THEIR USES.

Honorary or Corresponding Member of Scientific Societies and Academies in Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco, Chicago, Kingston, Mexico, Caracas, Buenos Ayres.

Omnia enim in usos suos creata sunt.-Strach, xxxix, 21-26.

American Edition, Revised and Enlarged.

PRICE, $3.00.

This octavo volume of 450 pages is now ready for distribution. The name of its distinguished author, the government botanist of Australia, has for a third of a century been too closely identified with botanical research and the industrial culture of plants, to necessitate any commendation of his literary efforts. To eliminate the results of Baron von Mueller's work from industrial botany, would be to create a hiatus which it would be impossible to supply from the works of any other writer.

The question of tree culture is one to which the people of this country must, before the lapse of many years, of necessity give their attention. In Baron von Mueller's book the trees and plants not indigenous to this country, but capable of cultivation here, are given with such description of them and of the particular sections to which they are adapted, as makes it an indispensable work to those interested in improving our native floral wealth. It is one of those works, moreover, not possessing which any public library is incomplete. Editions of it have already appeared in several European countries, and in India, and the appearance of this American edition is believed to be in response to an existing want in this country.

It gives me pleasure to announce that I have now in press, and will shortly have ready for issue, this valuable work. Its pages will be of large octavo size, and its letter press, paper and binding will be of a quality in keeping with the importance of the publication. It will comprehend the treatment of Nervous Diseases, Blood Diseases and Fevers, and will constitute a complete Manual of Practical Medicine which no progressive physician can well afford to be without. DujardinBeaumetz is without a peer on the continent of Europe as a therapeutist and clinical lecturer, and his publications rank among the most popular medical works. The translation is well done and is adapted to American practice, with numerous additions, by Dr. E. P. Hurd, and is given to the profession with a special introduction by the author.

Probably no medical treatise of equal importance has been issued from the press of this country of late years, giving, as it does, the practice of the French school and its adaptation to American practice.
