ORDERD by this Board that the Sale of the ferry between this City & Powles Hook; and also of the Ferry between this City & Nassau Island be postponed to the first Day of March next at two o'clock in the Afternoon; and that the Several Petitions this day preferred to this Board praying that a Landing place for the Ferry Boats may be Established at Pecks Slip; and also at Coenties Slip, be taken up & Considered at the next Common Council.

THIS BOARD taking into Consideration the Subject matter of the Several Petitions prefferred the Last Common Council and also the one prefferred this Day Relative to the Sale of the ferry from this City to Nassau Island when it was proposed, first whether the said ferry should be Leased in the way it now is with the Alteration proposed by Mr [292] Hugget of this Board Appointing a Person to Superintend the Ferry Boats on the City Side or not and Debates arising thereon the Question was put & Carried it should not be Leased in the Way it now is Secondly it was also proposed how many or what Number of Ferrys there should be fixed from the City Side to Nassau Island and Debates arising thereon the Question was put and Carried that there should be three. Thirdly it was likewise proposed, that the three Landing Places on the City Side Should be fixed and Debates arising

thereon the Question was put & Carried, that there should be one Landing Place fixed & Established at the Coenties Slip, one other at the Present or Fly Slip, and the other at Pecks Slip. Fourthly It was also further proposed what number or how many Landing Places there should be fixed & Established on Nassau Island and Debates arising thereon the Question was put & Carried, that there should be two fixed & Established, the one at Mr Philip Livingston's wharf, and the other at the present wharf, belonging to the ferry house. Fifthly It was also proposed that the said ferry should be Sold in Separate Interests and Debates Arising thereon the Question was put, & Carried that the same be sold in three Several Interests and that the Respective Lessees Shall receive the Ferriage of their Severall Boats on both Sides the water & that the same be sold for two Years from the first of May next, the Sale to be at Publick Auction on the first day of March next at the Common Council Chamber in the City Hall at two oClock in the Afternoon

ORDERD that the Purchasers of the said ferrys be Obliged to Provide the number of Boats following that is to say, the one, that purchases the middle ferry, to provide six Boats four Large ones & two small ones, and the two others that purchases the upper & Lower ferrys to provide two Large & one small Boats

Mr Mayor produced to this Board the deed from Samuel No 2640 Verplanck & others to this Corporation for the ground he agreed to sell in the rear of the City Hall which this Board approves of, & thereupon ORDERD that the Mayor issue his warrant to the Treasurer of this Corporation to pay to him or order the sum of £55798 in full for the consideration money mentioned in the within deed

THE PETITION of William Brownjohn & Sundry others Proprietors. of Houses & Lots of Ground on Hunters Key was preferred to this board [293] and Read Praying a Grant of two hundred feet into the River fronting their Respective Houses & Lots of Ground &c which being Read it was thereupon ORDERD that the Consideration thereof be deferred to the next Common Council

Coll! Lewis Morris of the manor of Morrisaniah in West Chester County made Application to this board and Informed that the Present Post Road between this City & East Chester is twenty miles & Passes over many high & Steep hills which render it very inconvenient: that a Road between the places aforesaid, thro Harlem, Morrissania and the

Borough of West Chester, will be Less than Sixteen Miles, over a more Level Tract of Country; that he the said Lewis Morris & those who are Tenants in fee of the Soil Adjoining Harlem River, thro which Such Road must Pass, will bestow upon the Publick, the Land which shall be Necessary for Laying out the same, and that to Render the said Road really beneficial it will be Requisite to build a Bridge Across Harlem River which Cannot be Effected, without the Leave and Permission of this Worshipfull board first had & Obtained and therefore humbly hoped that this Board would Indulge them with a Grant and Permission of the Same. THIS BOARD taking the same into Consideration, thereupon ORDERD that the said Lewis Morris have permission Accordingly to Erect a Bridge Across Harlem River for the use of the Publick only and not for his Private Emolument

ORDERD the like to Patrick Walsh or order the Sum of No 2642 £26: 1 (out of the monies paid into his hands by the Church W: Iss! Wardens for acct of the Lamps & Watchmen) for the like Sum by him advanced & paid to Sundry Watchmen & for his own Services from the 17th of January Last to the 18th of February instant as p his said acct sworn to, audited by the Committee and allowed of by this Board (this Wt Issued to Jn. Faulkner)

ORDERD the like to John Faulkner or order the Sum of No 2643 £12: 8 (out of the monies paid into his hands by the Church Wardens of this City for account of the Lamps & Watchmen) for the like Sum by him advanced & paid to Sundry Watchmen & for his own Services from the 39 of February to the 17th Instant as p his said acc! Sworn to, audited by the Committee & allowed of by this Board

ORDERD the like to Abraham Van Gelder or order the No 2644 Sum of £11: 12 (out of the monies paid into his hands by Wt Iss! the Church Wardens of this City for account of the Lamps & Watchmen) for the like Sum by him advanced & paid to Sundry Watchmen & for his own Services from the 18th of January last to the 1st of February ins! as pr his acc! Sworn to, Audited by the Committee & allowed of by this Board

Mr Mayor produced the Draft of an Address to his Excellency Governor Tryon, which being Read is in the Words following

To his Excellency Wm Tryon Esq' Captain General & Governor in Chief, in and over the Colony of New York, and the Territories Depending thereon in America, Chancellor & Vice Admiral of the same [295] The Humble Address of the Mayor Aldm & Commonalty of the City of New York

May it Please your Excellency/

While we Testify our Gratitude to God for the Gracious interposition of his Almighty arm, in preserving your Excellency and so many Branches of your family in the late Conflagrations of the Buildings in the fort; it is with a Mixture of undissembled Grief, that we find ourselves Called to the Melancholy Office of Condolence on Account of Your Great Losses in the wasting destruction of that memorable and Perilous hour

But Pungent as our Sorrow is, for this Calamity to your Excellency, it might be Alleviated by the Generous Sympathy of a province, that has a Just Sense of the merits of its Ruler if the approaching minutes of your departure, did not darken the prospect, we had of a more lasting felicity under your Command

It becomes us the Loyal Subjects of a most Gracious Sovereign, to Submit to an Act of his pleasure, Expressly founded upon the Royal approbation of its Expediency for the publick Utility; and more Especially, as you have inspired us with the firmest Confidence in Your
