WHEREAS by an Act of the Legislature of this Province made and passed the Sixteenth Day of February 1771 and lately revived, entitled "an Act for the better Regulation of the Election of Officers in the City of New York chosen by Virtue of the Charters granted to the said City and other Purposes therein mentioned," It is therein enacted and ordained, that the Mayor, Aldermen and Commonalty of the City of New York or the major Part of them, shall and may on such Day in the month of September in every Year as to themselves shall seem meet, at least eight Days before the Day of Election, fix upon a Proper Place, [492] in each respective Ward, where such Election shall be

held, and nominate and appoint a fit and discreet Person for each respective Ward in the said City, to preside at, and be the returning Officer of the said Election of the said Officers, which shall be chosen. for the said City, in the said Month of September for the Year next ensuing to see that the same be fairly Conducted & had, and to return the officers that shall be duly chosen; which Person so to be nominated and appointed for each Ward shall be a Resident in the Ward for which he shall be so appointed and a Freeholder there, or a Freeman of the said City; This Board therefore, in Pursuance of the said Law, do hereby nominate and appoint the several Persons hereinafter mentioned (they being respectively qualified according to the Directions of the aforesaid Act) to preside at and be the returning Officers of the Election of Officers for this City for the Year ensuing, each for the Ward for which he is so appointed and that the Place of Election in the said respective Wards be as follows, to wit,

The Clerk produced to this Board a Release from this Corporation to his Excellency William Tryon Esq' for a Peice of Ground at the lower End of Pearl Street for the Purpose of Enlarging the Battery, which being read was approved of, and the Seal being thereto affixed, ORDERED that the same be signed by Mr Mayor and delivered to his said Excellency.
