town of West-Brunswick, such compensation for travel to and from the office of the treasurer of said county, to pay into the county treasury the taxes of said town, as may by such board be deemed just and reasonable; and the sums so paid shall be assessed, levied and collected, as other contingent charges of the county are assessed, levied and collected.

CHAP. 3.

AN ACT fixing the time and place of holding the next annual Town-Meeting in the Town of Rome.

Passed January 15, 1831.

The People of the State of New-York, represented in Senate and Assembly do enact as follows:

S 1. The citizens of the town of Rome in the county of Oneida, qualified by law to vote for elective officers, shall assemble and hold their next annual town-meeting at the courthouse in said town, on the first Tuesday in February next; and the electors thereof shall then, and immediately before proceeding to the choice of town officers, fix the time and place for holding the annual town-meetings in said town, pursuant and subject to the provisions of section second of article first of title second of chapter eleven of the first part of the Revised Statutes.

$2. This act shall commence and take effect from and after the day of its final passage.

CHAP. 4.

AN ACT concerning the State Prison at Mount-Pleasant.

January 19, 1831.

The People of the State of New-York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

S 1. The sum of five thousand dollars is hereby appropriated for the support of the State Prison at Mount-Pleasant, to be paid by the treasurer upon the warrant of the comptroller, and accounted for in the manner provided by law.

$2. This act shall take effect immediately after the passage thereof.

CHAP. 5.

AN ACT authorising the Superintendents of the poor of the
County of Broome to borrow money.

The People of the State of New-York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

S1. The superintendents of the poor of the county of Money to be Broome, are authorised to borrow on the credit of said county, at a rate of interest not exceeding seven per cent, a sum of money not exceeding three thousand dollars, to be applied to the purchase of a farm and the erection of a poor-house for said county.

$ 2. The said sum of money, when borrowed, shall be paid Deposit. into the treasury of said county, and may be drawn thence by the said superintendents, from time to time, as the same may be required for the purposes aforesaid.

S3. The supervisors of said county of Broome, shall an- Tax. nually raise by tax on the taxable property of said county, a sum sufficient to pay the annual interest of the money which may be borrowed as aforesaid, and shall annually, after the year one thousand eight hundred and thirty-two, raise in addition, five hundred dollars, to be applied to the repayment of the principal of said sum, until the money which may be borrowed as aforesaid shall be repaid.

$4. The said superintendents of the poor shall account with Accounts. the board of supervisors of said county, for the moneys received by them under this act, in the same manner as they are now required by law to account for other moneys received by them.

$ 5. This act shall take effect upon the passage thereof.

CHAP. 6.

AN ACT to amend an act authorising the Supervisors of the County of St. Lawrence to levy a tax upon the inhabitants of Potsdam to build a bridge across the Racket river, in the Village of Potsdam, passed April 13th, 1830.

Passed January 20, 1831.

The People of the State of New-York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

S1. The board of supervisors of the county of St. Lawrence, are hereby authorised and required, at each of their

first and second annual meetings after the passage of this act, to cause to be levied and collected by tax on the freeholders, inhabitants, and taxable property of the town of Potsdam, in said county, in the same manner as other contingent expenses of said town are levied and collected, the sum of seven hundred and fifty dollars, each of which sums, when collected, shall be paid over to the commissioners mentioned in the said act hereby amended, to be by them expended in rebuilding the bridge across Racket river, at the village of Potsdam in said town; and further, all the provisions of the said act hereby amended, shall be deemed and held applicable to this act, except that the bond therein mentioned shall, with reference to this act, be in the penal sum of two thousand dollars.

CHAP. 7.

AN ACT to extend the Charter of the New-York Sugar
Refining Company.

Passed January 24, 1831.
The People of the State of New-York, represented in
Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows :

S1. The act incorporating the stockholders of the NewYork sugar refining company, passed March twenty second, one thousand eight hundred and eleven, is hereby extended and continued in force until March twenty-second, one thousand eight hundred and fifty-one.

S2. The said corporation shall possess the general powers, and be subject to the general liabilities and restrictions contained in the third title of the eighteenth chapter of the first part of the Revised Statutes.

Court when to be held.

CHAP. 8.

AN ACT directing a Special Circuit Court to be held in the County of Niagara.

Passed January 25, 1831. The People of the State of New-York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

$1. A special circuit court and court of oyer and terminer and jail delivery, shall be held in and for the county of Niagara, to commence on the third Monday of February next, and the said courts may be continued by adjournment to such time as
