COUNTY INSTITUTIONS.

FRANKLIN COUNTY ALMSHOUSE, Malone, N. Y. Inspected by Inspector Dorr October 14, 1902, and July 17, 1903. Keeper.-Worden A. Drake, appointed January 1, 1897.

Attached to the almshouse are 110 acres of land, 90 of which are reported to be under cultivation; value of land and buildings, $37,000; estimated value of the labor of the inmates during the year, $100; estimated value of the products of the farm, $4,000; receipts from sales, $400.

Expenses in connection with the almshouse for the year ending September 30, 1903, $7,666.31; estimated weekly expense per per

son, $3.32; expense of temporary (outdoor) relief administered by the superintendent and overseers of the poor, $6,845.78; expense of support in institutions, in whole or in part, other than the almshouse, $5,169.70; aggregate expenditures for support and relief, $19,681.79.

Total number in almshouse during the year, 102; remaining October 1, 1903, 37 (22 males and 15 females), including 5 feebleminded or idiotic persons and 1 epileptic; number of wayfarers to whom meals were furnished at the almshouse, 45; number receiving temporary (outdoor) relief, 508; number supported in other institutions, 61; total supported and relieved during the year, 716.

Terms and qualifications for admittance.-Pupils defective in speech or hearing, or both, of good moral character, free from disease, and possessing intellectual faculties capable of instruction are received.

Application to be made to the superintendent of public instruction, supervisor or overseer of the poor, or board of trustees of the institution.
