Attached to the almshouse are 154 acres of land, 140 of which are reported to be under cultivation; value of land and buildings, $657,000; estimated value of the labor of inmates during the year, $20,000; estimated value of the products of the farm, $8,887; receipts from sales, $167.50.

Expenses in connection with the almshouse for the year ending September 30, 1903, $165,078.69; estimated weekly expense per person, $3.04; expense of temporary (outdoor) relief administered by the superintendent and overseers of the poor, $41,735.97; expense of support in whole or in part in institutions other than the almshouse, $123,211.41; aggregate expenditures for support and relief, $330,026.07.

Total number in the almshouse during the year, 3,691; remaining October 1, 1903, 687 (483 males and 204 females), including 14 feeble-minded or idiotic, 8 epileptics, 10 blind and 1 deaf person; number receiving temporary (outdoor) relief, 5,956; number supported in other institutions, 3.956; total supported and relieved during the year, 13,603.
