NOTE 1.-The table presents the common and technical name, with some of the characteristics, of fifty-five weeds which are regarded as the most troublesome in the United States. NOTE 2.-By alternate cultivation and smothering crops is meant clean cultivation during the dry season and a heavy seeding of some annual crop, as crimson clover, cow peas, millet, or oats, that will cover the ground thickly and choke down the weeds during the growing season.
