SECT. 11. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That there shall be admitted into said academy any number of poor children who may at any time be offered, in order to be taught gratis: Provided, the number so admitted and taught, shall at no time be greater than six.

CHAPTER LXXXIX.

An ACT to empower the trustees of the German Calvanist congregation of Bethel Church, in Albany township, in Berks county, and the Calvanist congregation of Jacob's Church, and of the Calvanist congregation of Ebetbnezer Church, in Lynn township, Northampton county, to sell and convey a tract of land therein mentioned.

WHEREAS the trustees of the German Calvanist congregation of Bethel Church, in Albany township, in Berks county, and of the Calvanist congregation of Jacob's church, and of the Calvanist congregation of Ebethnezer church, in Lynn township, in Northampton county, by their petition to the general assembly, have represented that Edmund Physick, agent for John Penn, by deed, dated the seventeenth day of October, one thousand seven hundred and ninety-nine, did grant, bargain, sell and convey unto Ferdinand Ritter, John Smith, and Jacob Oswald, trustees of the congregations afore

said, and to their heirs and assigns, for the sole use, benefit and behoof of the three aforementioned several and respective congregations, and for no other intent and purpose whatever, a certain tract of land situate in Lynn township aforesaid, by meets and bounds described in the deed aforesaid, containing twelve acres and a half; and whereas the trustees aforesaid, and the members of their several congregations aforesaid, have in their petition further represented, that they find it inconvenient to hold the tract of land as tenants in common, and believe it would be of greater benefit to them if the land aforesaid were sold and the proceeds of sale applied to the use and benefit of said congregation; and believing it. would be reasonable and proper to apply a remedy in their behalf: Therefore,

CHAPTER XCI.

An ACT to regulate the taking up lumber, in the rivers Sus quebanna and Lebigb, and their branches.

SECT. I. BE it enacted by the senate and bouse of representatives of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in general assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That from in the rivers and after the first day of August next, if any logs, shingles, Susquehanna shingle-bolts, boards or lumber of any kind, which may have Lehigh and been or may be put into the river Susquehanna, or either of its branches, or into the river Lehigh or the waters running shall within into the said river, and which may be taken up by any person 30 days file a or persons, either floating down the waters of either of the list thereof said rivers, it shall be the duty of the person so taking up such with a justice lumber, to lodge a list by him subscribed, within thirty days of the proper thereafter, with the nearest justice of the peace of the town or township where such lumber was taken up, of the number quality and quantity of the logs, shingle-bolts, boards, shintered on the gles, or other lumber, with the marks on the same; and the justices dock said justice shall enter the same on his docket, and cause the same to be published at least three weeks, in one weekly news

CHAPTER XCII.

An ACT authorizing and empowering George Feidt, to execute a title to Michael Shadel, for a certain real estate therein

mentioned.

WHEREAS it appears to the legislature, that a certain tract of one hundred and sixty-one acres of land and allowance, situate in Upper Paxton township in the county of Dauphin, was granted by the commonwealth to Henry Moyer and John Deedy, trustees of the reformed congregation, and George Wirth and Jacob Shoop, trustees of the Lutheran congregation in said Upper Paxton township; and whereas the said trustees, on the seventeenth day of August, in the year one thousand eight hundred and eight, released one equal half part of the said tract of land each unto the other. And the said Lutheran congregation have lately erected a public house of worship on their part of said tract of land, and in order to defray the expenses thereof, they did on the third day of June, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine, covenant and agree to sell twenty acres and sixty four perches of said land, to Michael Shadel; and whereas it is doubtful whether a title which might be executed by the said congregation, to the said Michael Shadel, would be valid in law Therefore,

SECT. I. Be it enacted by the senate and house of representatives of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania in general assembly met, George Feidt and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That George authorized to Feidt, the present trustee of the Lutheran congregation, in Upper Paxton township, in the county of Dauphin, or his successor, be and he is hereby authorized and empowered, to make and execute a good and sufficient deed, in fee, for twenty acres and sixtyfour perches of land, situate in said township, adjoining lands of How the mo.
