An act for allowing a bounty on the exportation of British made cordage; and for difcontinuing the drawbacks upon foreign rough hemp exported.

HEREAS the wealth and profperity of this kingdom doth very much depend upon the improvement of its manufactures, and the exportation thereof; which exportation ought, by all proper means, to be encouraged, for the more comfortable support of great numbers of his Majefty's Jubjects employed in the making or working of fuch manufactures, and for the enlargement of the commerce of Great Britain: and whereas the manufacture of hemp into cordage has, of late years, been greatly improved in this kingdom; and there is reafon to believe, that the exportation of fuch cordage into foreign parts would confiderably increase, if some allowance was made upon the exportation thereof: may it therefore please your Majefty, that it may be enacted; and be it enacted by the King's most excellent majefty, by and with the advice and confent of the lords fpiritual and temporal, and commons, in this present parliament affembled, and by the authority of the fame, That from and after the first day of July, one thousand seven hundred and fixty fix, during the term of five years, and from thence to the end of the then next feffion of parliament, there shall be paid or allowed for and upon every hundred weight, containing one hundred and twelve pounds weight avoirdupois, 3q lowed upon every cwt. of of cordage, wrought up and manufactured in Great Britain Cordage ma- from foreign rough hemp, or hemp of the growth of Great nufactured in Britain, except hemp of the growth or produce of the Briti Great Britain colonies or plantations in America, which fhall be really and from foreign rough hemp, truly exported out of this kingdom to parts beyond the feas (except the ifle of Man) by way of merchandize, and fo in hemp (that of proportion for any greater or leffer quantity thereof, by way the American of bounty, the fum of two fhillings and four pence three colonies ex- farthings; which faid allowance or bounty fhall be paid and ported as mer- anfwered to the perfon or perfons fo exporting the fame, by chandize to the customer or collector of the customs, with the privity of foreign parts; the comptroller of the port from whence the fame fhall be
