This pamphlet supersedes the Standards for the Installation, Maintenance and Use of Gasoline Vapor Gas Lighting Machines, Lamps and Systems, Edition of 1919. Changes from the 1919 Edition appear in paragraphs le; 2 (entire); 5a; 6b, f, g, h, j; 7f; 11c, e; 20a, 22g, 23a.
Such portions of these rules as relate to the design or construction of appliances constitute but a partial outline of requirements. A device which fulfills these and no more will not necessarily be acceptable. All appliances should be submitted to the Underwriters' Laboratories for examination, test and report.
Any other forms of construction or materials than those herein specified, which are judged to have merit, should be submitted to Underwriters' Laboratories for examination and test, and if found to be efficient from the fire protection viewpoint, they will receive recognition accordingly.

In these standards the following words are used as defined below:
"Shall" is intended to indicate requirements.
"Should" is intended to indicate recommendations, or that which is advised but not required.
"Approved" refers to approval by the authority having jurisdiction in the enforcement of the regulations.

The storage and handling of gasoline should be in accordance with the Regulations for Containers for Hazardous Liquids.
