APPENDIX III Guide to Sources of Statistics Alphabetically arranged by subject, this guide contains references to the important primary sources of statistical information for the United States. Secondary sources have been included if the information contained in them is presented in a particularly convenient form or it primary sources are not readily available. Nonrecurrent publications presenting compilations or estimates for several years or new types of data not available in regular series are also included. Much valuable information may also be found in State reports (see pp. 997-1000) and in reports for particular commodities, industries, or similar segments of our economic and social structure. Because of the large number of such references, they are not included here. Section references on the right-hand side of each page indicate where data from the report cited appear in the Statistical Abstract. Where both current reports and a summary volume are cited, the section reference often appears opposite the summary volume only. Reference to the sections indicated will enable the user to ascertain the type of information presented in the original source. It should not be assumed that all of the subjects from the original source are summarized in the Abstract. Publications listed under each subject are divided into two main groups: "United States Government" and "Other." The location of the publisher of each report is given except for Federal agencies located in Washington. Mailing addresses of nongovernment agencies and of international organizations are given on pp. 1004-1006. Most Federal publications may be purchased from the Superintendent of Documents U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, D.C. 20402. In some cases, Federal publications may be obtained from the issuing agency. Major reports, such as the Census of Population, which consist of many volumes, are listed by their general, all-inclusive titles. Specific volume numbers and subtitles of the major census publications are listed on pp. 992-996.
