to make suggestions, with the result that several of the existing problems were deleted and upwards of thirty new ones added. Copies of the revised Research List were distributed among the various schools of pharmacy and various workers, calling their attention to the many problems awaiting solution. Useful notices also appeared in the journals of pharmacy at the time. It is interesting to note that several of the papers to be read at this year's meeting deal with problems mentioned in the list, and others, not yet completed, have been taken in hand. The Committee hope that other questions will be appropriated without delay.

"Grants have been made from the Research Fund of £5 to Mr. J. Grier and Mr. Henry Garnett to enable them to continue their work upon the pungent principle of ginger, and £2 to Mr. W. B. Cowie to cover the expenses of the chemicals used in his researches on scammony, jalap, and other substances.

"At the annual meetings of the Conference it has been noticed from time to time that the list of those present contained the names of many who were not on the roll of membership, and the Committee would be glad if members generally would co-operate in securing the enrolment of these visitors as members.

"The Executive Committee views with concern the fact that many resign after two or three years' membership, or allow their subscriptions to lapse. No less than one hundred and nine names have this year been erased from the list owing to the latter cause.

"There have been seventeen deaths during the past year. Among the number two names must be mentioned, those of Mr. Joseph Ince and Mr. J. W. Bowen. Mr. Ince contributed several papers of great usefulness, and did much in the earlier years of the Conference to forward its interests. Mr. Bowen was rarely absent from the annual gatherings, and by his innate goodness of heart and charm of manner shed an influence upon all he met which will never be forgotten or replaced. Mr. Isaiah Bourdas has very kindly consented to act as one of the auditors in Mr. Bowen's stead.

"The Executive Committee desires to call attention to the fact that there are still left three hundred copies of the General Index, and it will be seen by reference to the accounts that the amount received for the whole of these indexes during the past year has been only 10s. The Committee again wishes to draw the attention of the members to this very valuable com

pilation, feeling sure that its usefulness has not been fully recognized.

"Mr. J. O. Braithwaite has been re-appointed editor of the YearBook of Pharmacy, and is making progress with the work of the new volume.

'In conclusion, the Executive Committee is glad to be able to report that during the year there has been an accession of one hundred and twenty new members, many of whom reside in Aberdeen and the neighbourhood. One lady pharmacist has also been elected, and we trust that her example may be followed by many others. They would be heartily welcomed."

Mr. W. S. GLYN-JONES, in moving the adoption of the report, said he was sure every one would agree that the report was a satisfactory one, and one on which they could congratulate the executive.

Mr. F. W. BRANSON, Leeds, seconded the motion, and the report was unanimously adopted.

FINANCIAL STATEMENT AND TREASURER'S REPORT.

The Treasurer, Mr. J. C. UMNEY, submitted the following statement and report :

"I regret to report that the finances of the Conference show a little set-back as compared with last year. The deficit last year was only £9, whilst this year it amounts to £39. This, however, is due to the fact that the Year-Book is considerably greater in size, and you will see has cost £50 more. The amounts received in subscriptions are considerably less this year. This, however, is due in part to the fact that the circulars with regard to the Conference were issued later this year than last, and the amount received in subscriptions during the month of June was less by approximately £30. This should mean that the amount received during the present year is greater, and I hope that a great many members who have omitted to pay their subscriptions this year will do so and continue their membership, and so receive the useful Year-Book.

Mr. GEORGE LUNAN, in moving the adoption of the annual financial statement, said it was not altogether satisfactory, but

that result was due to the expense of the Year-Book. The report was an absolutely satisfactory one.

Mr. G. F. MERSON, Newcastle, seconded, and remarked that year by year they had a considerable accession to the membership from the district in which the Conference was held, but as regularly, year by year, they had a large number of members dropping off. A strong effort, he suggested, might be made to see that the subscriptions were kept up. The report was adopted.
