BILATERAL TREATIES OF ARBITRATION AND CONCILIATION

Denmark-Venezuela

According to a despatch from the American Legation at Caracas dated February 12, 1935, the treaty of arbitration, judicial settlement, and conciliation between Denmark and Venezuela, signed December 19, 1933, was published in the Venezuelan Gaceta Oficial, February 5, 1935, and entered into effect on that day.

Panama-Spain

According to a despatch dated February 18, 1935, from the American Embassy at Madrid, the Gaceta de Madrid of February 17, 1935, published a law signed by the President of Spain on February 13, 1935, bringing into effect the treaty of arbitration between Spain and Panama which was signed at Panama on September 22, 1930.

ARMAMENT REDUCTION

LONDON NAVAL TREATY OF 1930

By a note dated March 7, 1935, the British Ambassador at Washington informed the Secretary of State in accordance with the provisions of article 10 of the London naval treaty of the following particulars on the laying down of the keel of His Majesty's Ship Sheffield:

Classification: Cruiser

Date of laying keel: January 31, 1935

Standard displacement: 9,000 tons (9,144 metric tons)

Length at water line: 584 feet

Extreme beam at or below water line: 61 feet 8 inches
Mean draft at standard displacement: 17 feet

Caliber of largest gun: 6 inches

Japan

By two notes dated March 18, 1935, the Japanese Ambassador at Washington informed the Secretary of State of the laying of the keels of two destroyers of the Japanese Navy. Particulars of the

vessels furnished in accordance with the provisions of article 10 of the London naval treaty are as follows:

Classification: Destroyers
Dates of laying keels:

Harusame: February 2, 1935

Samidare: December 19, 1934

Standard displacement: 1,368 tons (1,390 metric tons)

Length at water line: 102.24 meters

Extreme beam: 9.67 meters

Mean draft at standard displacement: 2.77 meters
Caliber of largest gun: 12.7 centimeters

United States

By a letter dated March 2, 1935, the Acting Secretary of the Navy informed the Secretary of State of the laying of the keel of U. S. S. Perch on February 25, 1935. In accordance with the terms of article 10 of the London naval treaty particulars of this vessel have been furnished as follows to the governments parties to the treaty:

Classification: Submarine

Standard displacement (estimated): 1,330 tons (1,351 metric tons)

Length at water line: 290 feet

Extreme beam at or below water line: 25 feet 1 inch

Mean draft at standard displacement: 13 feet 10 inches
Caliber of largest gun: 3 inches

The Secretary of the Navy informed the Secretary of State by a note dated March 20, 1935, that the keel of the U. S. S. Brooklyn was laid on March 12, 1935. In accordance with the provisions of article 10 of the London naval treaty the governments parties to the treaty have been informed of particulars of this vessel as follows:

Length at water line: 600 feet

Extreme beam at or below water line: 61 feet 7 inches

Mean draft at standard displacement: 19 feet 9 inches
Caliber of largest gun: 6 inches

By a note dated March 20, 1935, the Acting Secretary of the Navy informed the Secretary of State that the U. S. S. Worden was completed on March 1, 1935. Particulars of this vessel have been communicated to the governments parties to the London naval treaty as follows:
