CONVENTION ON RIGHTS AND DUTIES OF STATES

United States

The Director General of the Pan American Union informed the Secretary of State by a letter dated July 13, 1934, that the instrument of ratification by the United States of the convention on rights and duties of states, signed at the Seventh International Conference of American States, Montevideo, December 26, 1933, was deposited in the archives of the Union on July 13, 1934.

NON AGGRESSION PACT BETWEEN POLAND AND THE UNION OF SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLICS 5

The American Ambassador to Poland reported by a despatch dated June 29, 1934, that the exchange of ratifications of the protocol signed at Moscow on May 5, 1934, extending the duration of the nonaggression pact of July 25, 1932, between Poland and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics took place at Warsaw on June 16, 1934. The protocol became effective upon the exchange of the instruments of ratification.

NONAGGRESSION PACT AND CONCILIATION CONVENTION BETWEEN ESTONIA AND THE UNION OF SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLICS 6

The American Legation at Tallinn transmitted to the Department of State with a despatch dated July 5, 1934, a copy of the protocol signed at Moscow on April 4, 1934, prolonging for 10 years the duration of the treaty of nonaggression of May 4, 1932, between Estonia and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Ratifications of the protocol were exchanged on June 26, 1934, and it entered into effect on that date.

THIRD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON PUBLIC INSTRUCTION

In accordance with an invitation received through the Swiss Legation in Washington, the Government of the United States participated in the Third International Conference on Public Instruction which was convened in Geneva, Switzerland, July 16, 1934. The following persons were delegates of the United States to the conference:

EXTRADITION

CONVENTION ON EXTRADITION 1

The Director General of the Pan American Union advised the Secretary of State by a letter dated July 13, 1934, that the instrument of ratification by the United States of the convention on extradition signed at the Seventh International Conference of American States, Montevideo, December 26, 1933, was deposited in the archives of the Union on July 13, 1934.

SUPPLEMENTARY EXTRADITION TREATY BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND SWEDEN 2

The American Minister to Sweden informed the Secretary of State by a telegram dated July 31, 1934, that the instruments of ratification of the supplementary extradition treaty between the United States and Sweden, which was signed May 17, 1934, were exchanged at Stockholm on July 31, 1934.

EXTRADITION TREATY BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND TURKEY'

The American Ambassador to Turkey informed the Secretary of State by a despatch dated June 18, 1934, that the instruments of ratification of the extradition treaty between the United States and Turkey signed August 6, 1923, were exchanged at Ankara on June 18, 1934. The treaty will enter into force 2 months after the date of the exchange of ratifications and will remain in force for 5 years.

INTERNATIONAL SANITARY CONVENTION FOR AIR NAVIGATION *

Egypt

By a despatch dated June 11, 1934, the American Minister to Egypt reported that the ratification by Egypt of the international sanitary convention for air navigation signed at The Hague April 12, 1933, was published in the Journal Officiel of June 11, 1934. The convention was signed on behalf of Egypt on November 8, 1933, and was ratified by the King on June 7, 1934.

Sweden

INTERNATIONAL SANITARY CONVENTION 5

By a despatch dated July 18, 1934, the American Chargé d'Affaires ad interim at Paris informed the Secretary of State that the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in a note dated July 12, 1934, advised the Embassy of the receipt by the French Government of the notification of the adherence of Sweden to the international sanitary convention signed at Paris June 21, 1926. The notification of adherence was dated July 1, 1934.

INTERNATIONAL AGREEMENT RELATING TO STATISTICS OF CAUSES OF DEATH

On June 19, 1934, the American Ambassador to Great Britain signed at London on behalf of the United States the international agreement relating to statistics of causes of death.

At an international conference convened by the French Government in 1900 an International List of Causes of Death was estab lished. This list was revised at similar conferences held in 1909, 1920, and 1929. The conference in 1929 held that a useful purpose would be served if the actual adoption of the classification were made
