Chapter 175.

Resolve relating to claims of Settlers on Proprietors' Lands.

Resolved, That the governor and council be directed to appoint a commissioner, who shall, as soon as practicable, treat with the owners of lands described in the report of Noah Barker, made in pursuance of resolve of February twenty-seven, eighteen hundred and seventy-three, for the purchase of said lands, or for the exchange for them of other lands owned by the state. And such commissioner is hereby empowered to purchase the lands described in said report, at a price not exceeding fifty cents per acre, or to convey to the owners thereof lands belonging to the state, of equal value, in exchange for them. And such commissioner is hereby empowered and directed to convey to the settlers named in said report, as soon as such purchase or exchange is effected, the lots of land described in said report as occupied by such settlers. And the governor is hereby authorized to draw his warrant upon the treasury for the amount that may be necessary, under this resolve, for the purchase of said lands, and for the reasonable compensation and expenditures of said commissioner.

Resolve for the purchase of the Maine State Year Book and Legislative Manual.

Resolved, That the secretary of state be authorized to contract for seven hundred copies of the Maine state year book and legislative manual, at a cost not to exceed one thousand dollars, namely: one hundred copies, eight vo. suitable for binding with the documents; one copy, to be delivered by the secretary of state, on or before the tenth day of May, eighteen hundred and seventy-six, to each member and officer of the legislature of eighteen hundred and seventy-six; and the balance to be delivered to the secretary of state, of which balance one copy shall, by said

ture of eighteen hundred and seventy-seven, and the remainder be delivered to the heads of the departments for their use.

Resolve to more fully perfect the Records of the Adjutant General's Office, and to encourage the writing of Regimental Histories of Maine troops in the war of eighteen hundred and sixty-one.

Resolved, That the adjutant general, under the direction of the governor and council, be authorized to collect diaries or obtain copies of them, letters, personal accounts and incidents of the battle field, camp and hospital, or any other interesting and valuable material for army history, and to arrange and index all such matter and data under the name of the regiment to which it may appertain, and that such sum be paid as the governor and payment for. council may deem necessary.

Chapter 178.

Resolve in favor of rebuilding Bridge across east branch of Forks of the Kennebec river, in Somerset county.

Resolved, That the sum of two thousand five hundred dollars, or such part of said sum as is necessary, be, and the same is hereby appropriated for rebuilding the bridge across the east branch of the Forks of the Kennebec river, in the county of Somerset, under the direction of Albert N. Greenwood, at or near the location of the toll bridge now there standing; provided, that Proviso. before the building of said bridge is commenced, the Kennebec Log Driving Company shall execute and lodge with the treasurer of this state, a good and sufficient bond in the sum of five thousand dollars, that they have purchased and will hold the franchise of said toll bridge during the continuance of the charter of the same, and keep the bridge to be erected in good and passable repair, free of all tolls until the expiration of said charter.

Resolve in favor of granting bounty on Bears to certain towns and plantations. Resolved, That there be paid to the treasurer of Waite plantation, twenty-five dollars; to the treasurer of Mapleton plantation, five dollars; to the treasurer of plantation number eighteen, five dollars; to the treasurer of Oldtown, ten dollars.

Resolved, That the land agent be, and is hereby authorized to convey by deed, lot numbered one hundred and thirteen, in township number eleven, range three, now Chapman plantation, to James Phair, waiving further settling duties.

Chapter 181.

Resolves authorizing a Temporary Loan.

Resolved, That to provide for the wants of the treasury, the treasurer of state be and he hereby is authorized to procure, on the faith of the state, if he shall deem it necessary, during the current year, a temporary loan of two hundred thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may be needed.

Resolved, That the treasurer is hereby authorized to give notes in behalf of the state, at a rate of interest not exceeding six per centum, and reimbursable at the pleasure of the state, after sixty days, and within twelve months from the date hereof, for such portions of the loan hereby authorized as may be found necessary. Approved February 23, 1876.

Resolve transferring the Granger Turnpike Fund into the Treasury.

Resolved, That the state treasurer is hereby directed to transfer the balance of the Granger Turnpike fund, excepting that which may be paid to Joseph Granger, into the treasury.

Resolve in favor of roads passing through the Indian Township, in Washington county. Resolved, That the sum of two hundred dollars be appropriated Indian township, to be expended on that part of the Houlton and Baring road which through. lies in the Indian township; also that the sum of one hundred fifty dollars be appropriated to be expended on the road leading from the Houlton and Baring road, in said Indian township, to Grand Lake stream; said sums to be expended under the supervision of the governor and council.

Resolves approving the draft and arrangement of the Constitution of this State, as amended, made by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court, and providing for the enrolment of the same.

Resolved, That the draft and arrangement of the constitution of this state, as amended, made by the chief justice of the supreme judicial court, in pursuance of a resolve of the legislature, approved February twenty-fourth, eighteen hundred and seventyfive, is hereby approved, and that the same be enrolled on parchment, and deposited in the office of the secretary of state. Resolved, That the secretary of state is hereby authorized and Enrollment. directed to cause said constitution, as amended and arranged, to be enrolled on parchment, and that the secretary of state, under the seal of the state, attest to the correctness of such enrolment, and that the sum of five hundred dollars be appropriated to defray the expense of the same.

Chapter 185.

Resolves fixing the number of the Bank Examiner's Reports to be printed annually hereafter at the expense of the state.

Resolved, That the number of copies of the bank examiner's reports to be printed annually hereafter at the expense of the state, shall be two thousand.

Resolved, That all acts or parts of acts, resolves and parts of resolves, inconsistent herewith, are hereby repealed.

Road, Kingsbury mills to Blanchard, in favor of.

Chapter 186.

Resolve in favor of the State Road between Kingsbury Mills and Blanchard, in Piscataquis county.

Resolved, That the sum of three hundred dollars be, and the same is hereby appropriated to repair the state road between Kingsbury Mills and Blanchard, to be expended under the direction of the county commissioners of Piscataquis county.

State prison, in favor of.

Chapter 187.

Resolve in favor of the State Prison.

Resolved, That there be, and hereby is, appropriated the sum of thirteen thousand five hundred dollars for the use of the state prison, as follows: deficiency in eighteen hundred and seventyfour, two thousand eight hundred eighty-five dollars and sixtythree cents; deficiency in eighteen hundred and seventy-five, eight thousand four hundred four dollars and eighty-five cents; to enlarge harness shop, repair prison and finish reservoir, two thousand one hundred nine dollars and fifty-two cents; for school books, one hundred dollars.
