41. DAVID STEERE, son of Thomas Steere (18), grandson of Thomas (5), was born May 20, 1742. He and his wife belonged to the Society of Friends. His father deeded property to him in the year 1769. He resided in Smithfield. He married Mary Arnold, daughter of Benjamin and Anne Arnold, born February 2, 1742. She died September 18, 1773; he died October 22, 1790. HON. STEPHEN STEERE, Son of Richard Steere (19), grandson of Thomas (5), was born November 10, 1736, and resided in Glocester. He married, October 28, 1764, Rispah Smith of Smithfield. He was a deputy in 1784. He removed to Norwich, Chenango County, N. Y., where he owned a large property, including all of the east side of what is now the village of Norwich. He died there. He married, October 29, 1772, Anne Leach, daughter of Stephen and Sarah (Hooper) Leach of Scituate. He is said to have lived on the east side of Absalom Hill, in the town of Glocester. June 30, 1710 (perhaps the son of Caleb, Jr.). 57. ENOCH STEERE, son of Anthony Steere (26), grandson of Samuel (10), was born June 10, 1748. He married, June 1, 1778, Zeruiah Mowry, daughter of Ananias Mowry. They belonged to the Society of Friends. It is said that when he was married his father offered him a home with himself with a certain portion of the produce of the farm for his pay. Whether the land was poor or the crops failed is not stated, but his portion for his summer's work was one bushel of corn and three pecks of rye. He worked all winter at one shilling a day and saved enough money to buy a cow. By thrift he amassed quite a fortune. He died November 28, 1826, aged 78 years, 5 months, and 6 days. MOWRY. 58. - Ist, CATHERINE STEERE, daughter of Anthony Steere (26), granddaughter of Samuel (10), was born January 30, 1749, and married Judge Daniel Mowry of Smithfield, R. I., who was born August 17, 1729. He had been married before, August 27, 1749, to Anne Phillips, daughter of Richard and Anne Phillips; 2d, August 19, 1756, to Amy Arnold, widow of Thomas Arnold. He had children by the former marriages. He was representative in Congress, member of General Assembly, and judge of Court of Common Pleas. He died July 6, 1806, aged 77; she died April 4, 1827. SAMUEL STEERE, son of Jonah Steere (27), grandson of Samuel (10), was born January 13, 1745. He married, January, 1775, Mary Smith, daughter of Thomas Smith. He removed from Glocester to Johnston, R. I. He made his will October 13, 1824, giving to his wife Mary all the household furniture and $100 in money, in addition to her right of dower, and naming his children, most of whom had already received their portion. He removed from Glocester to Burrillville, which was set off from Glocester in 1806. His property is described in the assessment roll of Glocester as follows: "One dwelling-house, area 46 by 23 feet, one story, 14 windows, 15 squares, 8 by 6 glass; one crib, area 16 by 16, with two acres land adjoining east on the road and south on his other land, value $300; one barn 30 by 27, one sixth part of a saw-mill, 133 acres of land adjoining land of Joktan Putman south on the river, value $1,064."
