In the year 1723, January 27th, he bought land of Joseph and James Williams, to be taken up on the east side of the Seven Mile Line in the original right of Joseph Williams. He died, unmarried, July 19, 1731, administration being given to his brother Thomas.

WILL OF THOMAS STEERE,

AUGUST 22, 1735.

J Thomas Steer of the Town of Smithfield Jn the County of Prouidence in the Colony of Rhod Island, yeoman, being weak in body but of a Disposing Sence and memory thanks be Giuen unto god therefore, Caling unto mind the mortality of my body Do make and ordain this my Last will and Testeament — That is to Say principly and first of all J giue and Recommend my Soul into the hands of god that gave it and my Body J Recommend to the Earth to be buryed in Decant Christian burial at the Discretion of my Executor: and as Touching Such worly Esstate as it hath pleased god to bless me with in this Life J Giue, Demise and Dispose the same: Jn folowing manner and form. Jm. primess J Giue and bequeth to Metheable my Loving wife all the Rail and personal Estate that was her former Husband's when J maried her, to be hers and at her Dispose: and my will is that my wife Shall have the sum of Seuenty pounds in mouable Estate to be paid by my executor hereafter named: alwise provided that she quitts her self of my estate:

Jtem, my will is that my wife Shall have Liberty to Dewell in my house with her famely till they are come of age: and During her widow hood and have priuiledge Soficeant for her Comfortable maintanance prouided She acquitt the afore said Estate and on condition thereof J Giue to my wife the sum of fourty pounds to pay a bond which She owed when J maried her and in Case my wife mary then the afore said Estate to be quitt.

Item J Giue to my Daughter Febe Matheason and to her Children Lawfully begotten of her body the Sum of one hundred and Twenty pounds to be Rased and Levied out of my Estate by my executor hereafter named.

Jtem: J Giue to my Daughter Mary Mowry a Certain piece of Land Laid out in partner-Ship with Capt Joseph Mowry being by Extemation Twenty fiue acres to her and her heirs and assigns forever allways prouided my heirs and Executors may have free liberty to pass and Repass to a piece of Land Lying more north easterly from the aforesaid Land.

Jtem J giue to my Daughter Mary Mowry the sum of Eighty pounds: to be Raised and Leuied out of my Estate by my executor Hereafter named.

Jtem J Giue to my two sons Thomas and Richard Steer all my Land, measuges, tenements, herideterements, to them and their heirs and assigns for Euer further my will is that my Son Thomas shall have all my and lands Lying on the

Easterly side of a bridge Caled the Great Bridg which we go over to go to Samuell Aldrichs to him and his heirs and assigns for euer allways prouided his mother-in-Law may have Liberty and priueledge in the housing and to the Jmprouied part of the homestead farm Soficeant for her Comfortable maintanance During her Life: prouided She Remains a widow: her acquitting the aforesaid sum of Seventy pounds :

J giue to my two sons Thomas and Richard Steer a Certain piece of Land Lying near to the now Dewelling house of Phillip Smith, begining at a Chestnut tree near sd House: then Extending Southerly Cros the River about fourty poles to a walnut tree with stones about it from thence a Straight line to the highway where said highway Croses the River then Rangeing Easterly by the side of sd highway while it comes parlel with a north Line from the said Chesnut tree then south to the said Chesnut tree: to them and their heirs foreuer with the priuiledges, and appurtenances their vnto belonging: Jtem, J Giue to my two Sons Thomas and Richard Steer two Lotts in prouidence Town Street with a lott in the Stated Common so Caled - and half a Right in the thatch bed — to them and their heirs for Euer to be Equally Divided:

Jtem J Giue to my son Richard Steer all my Land Lying Southwesterly from the midle of a medow Caled the Ready medow with a Straight Line to the Slang Brook and Southerly and Southwesterly up Sied Brook with three pieces of Land more one lieth near to a Swamp known by the name of Hors Swamp another piece Lyeth near to a Swamp caled Malaury Swamp. with another piece Lying betwixt the two Lines Caled Dexters and Hopkins line all which lands and priuiledges thereunto belonging to be and remain vnto him my sd son Richard Steer and to his heirs and assigns for Euer.

Jtem J Giue to my two Sons Thomas and Richard Steer a Certain piece of Land Lying near to Noah Smiths and to the Littel Sedar Swamp to be Equally Diuided betwixt my two sons to them and their heirs for Euer.

Jtem J Giue to my two Sons Thomas and Richard Steer all my mouable Estate to be Equally Diuided betwixt them excepting Sum Silver and gold which J Giue to be Equaly Diuided amongst my four Childrin, Thomas and Richard and Pheby and Mary. Further I Doe Constitute and apint my son Thomas Steer to be Sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament making void and null all other will or wills formerly by me made.

Ratifiing and Confirming this and no other to be my Last Will & Testament whereof J the aboue named Thomas Steer have hereunto sett my hand and seal

this Twenty Second Day of August A. D. 1735. published pronounced and Declared by the said Thomas Steer as his Last Will and Testament in the presence of us the

Whereas Thomas Steer of Smithfield Jn the County of prouidence and Colony of Rhod Jsland and prouidence plantation in New England yeoman who Departed this Life August ye 1735 who Did in and by his Last will and Testament Constute and appoint his son Thomas Steer of sd Smithfield Executor to his sd will and also ordered his Executor to pay Sundrey Legaces; and the sd will being Laid before the Town Council of Smithfield which will was by said Town Council approuied and proued to be a perfect will and the sd Thomas Steer was by sd Town Council Confirmed in his Executor Ship to said will according to the Contents of said will —

These are Therefore to order and fully Jmpower you the sd Thomas Steer to Take into your possession Care and Coustody all and Singular the mouable Estate good and Chattels that Did belong to the sd Thomas Steer at the time of his Death. and the Debts Due to sd Estate and on the same faithfully to Administrate in order to Discharge and pay his Debts and for to pay the aboue sd Legaces Speceafied in said will and to act and Do in all things Relating the

primesses as the Law Impowreth an Executor to Do: and Render an: acco1 of your proceeding hereinunto the sd Town Council or to their susso's in sd offoice when Legually called theirunto
