James Martin, for several decades a leading authority in computing, is a Pulitzer Prize nominee, and has written 101 textbooks. In the early 1990s Martin was a member of the software Scientific Advisory Board of the U.S. Department of Defense. He is Founder and Chairman Emeritus of Headstrong, which designs and develops ultra-complex systems that enable leading companies create real business value. During three decades of lecturing and consulting around the world Martin became concerned with the rapidly worsening problems of the planet, and practical actions that can be taken about them. Believing that this will eventually lead to civilizations different from today, he created the groundbreaking James Martin 21st-Century School at Oxford University, which links together many Institutes and top academics concerned with the future. Its mission is to "Find solutions to the biggest problems facing humanity in the 21st Century, and identify humanity's biggest opportunities."
