The St. Paul & Duluth Railroad Company and Northern Pacific Railroad Company jointly sold a portion of ground at Duluth, owned jointly by them, to the Duluth Union Depot Company for $250,000.00 of the capital stock of said Duluth Union Depot Company. The St. Paul & Duluth Railroad Company credited the cost of their road with the sum of $125,000.00, and charged same amount to stocks of other companies owned. See pages 37 and 49.

There were in the hands of the clerk of the United States Court 61 shares of preferred stock of the St. Paul & Duluth Railroad Company as collateral security for the sum required to redeem certain obligations of the Lake Superior & Mississippi Railroad Company. By order made June 30, 1891, judge of United States Circuit Court, the 61 shares were surrendered to the railroad company on its depositing $731.41 in money with the clerk of the court. The St. Paul & Duluth Railroad Company cancelled the 61 shares, debiting the account of preferred stock outstanding and reducing the cost of road $6,100.00.
