a. Miles operated the present year, 1,046,4. The Davenport line, 31.09 miles, and the Trosky branch, 5.41 miles, a total of 46.5 miles were operated from January 1st to June 30th, 1891, being equal to 23.25 miles for 12 months; these added to the 1,046.4 miles gives the average miles operated for the year, 1,069.65.

b. Switching mileage given here is "terminal switching" and is computed on a basis of 6 miles per hour for the time engine is in service.
