THE DEGREE OF MASTER IN ARTS.

Any Bachelor in Arts of the Queen's University who has attended for two terms, subsequently to having received the Bachelor's Degree, lectures in one of the Colleges of the University, on any of the subjects of the following four courses, may present himself for Examination for the Degree of M. A.

The Fee for the Degree of M.A. is Three Pounds. A Candidate may select for his Examination any one of the four following courses:―

COURSE I.

The Greek and Latin Classic Authors; Prose Composition in Greek, Latin, and English; French, German, or Italian.

COURSE II.

English Philology and Criticism; Logic; Metaphysics, or (in place of Metaphysics, at the option of the Candidate) Political Economy and Jurisprudence.

COURSE III.

Mathematics, Pure and Mixed, including the following sub-
jects:-

Algebra, including the Theory of Equations and the
Theory of Probabilities.

* Candidates for other Degrees may compete with those for the Degree of B.A. for the prizes in the Celtic, Sanscrit, and Arabic languages.

Trigonometry, Plane and Spherical.

The Differential and Integral Calculus, including Differ-
ential Equations.
Analytical Geometry.

Statics and Dynamics, including Hydrostatics, Hydrau-
lics, and Pneumatics.

Heat, Electricity, and Magnetism.

Optics,

Astronomy.

COURSE IV.

Experimental and Natural Sciences, including the following subjects:

Experimental Physics.

Laws of Chemical Constitution and Combination, and
the General Properties and Preparation of Organic
and Inorganic Bodies.

Structure, Functions, and Classification of Animals.
Structure, Functions, and Classification of Vegetables.
Zoological and Botanical Geography.

Elements of Geology, including Palæontology.
Elements of Physical Geography.

Elements of Mineralogy, including Crystallography.

HONORS WITH THE DEGREE OF M.A.

A Gold Medal and £15 will be conferred upon any Candidate who shall obtain the first place in any one of the above four courses of study, if he be recommended by the Examiners as possessed of sufficient absolute merit.

FACULTY OF LAW.*

I. CERTIFICATE OF THE LAW PROFESSORS. Students intending to proceed for the Certificate of the Law Professors, so as to entitle themselves to serve an apprenticeship of four years instead of five, under the Act for Amending the several Acts for the Regulation of Attorneys and Solicitors (14 and 15 Vict., cap. 88) must enter their names with the Registrar of one of the Queen's Colleges of Belfast, Cork, and Galway, and pay the necessary College and Class Fees to the Bursar before the commencement of the Law lectures in each Session.

Such students need not pass the Matriculation Examination, but must attend the lectures and pass the Examinations prescribed for the first and second years of the course of study for Candidates for the Diploma in Elementary Law.

II. THE DIPLOMA IN ELEMENTARY LAW.

Students who shall have passed the Matriculation Examination of the Faculty of Law in one of the Queen's Colleges, and shall have pursued during three years the following courses of study, shall be admitted to Examination for the Diploma in Elementary Law :—

IN THE FIRST YEAR.

The Law of Property, and the Principles of Conveyancing.
Jurisprudence.

*Students preparing for the Bar may, by the recent regulations of the Benchers of the King's Inns, be called to the Bar in three years instead of five, if Graduates in Arts of the Queen's University.

Students preparing for the profession of Attorney or Solicitor, can (by 14th and 15th of Vic., c. 88) save two years of their apprenticeship by taking the Degree of B.A. or of LL.B. in the Queen's University.

IN THE SECOND YEAR.

Equity and Bankruptcy.
Civil Law.

IN THE THIRD YEAR.

Common and Criminal Law.

Students intending to proceed to the Diploma in Elementary Law, must enter their names with the Registrar of the College which they have selected, and pay to the Bursar the College and Class Fees (see pp. 186,242, and 255, before the commencement of the Law lectures in each Session.

They must attend the lectures in the prescribed subjects, respectively, during each year. There is a General Examination in all the subjects lectured on during each Session, which all students are required to pass.

The University Examination for the Diploma in Ele, mentary Law, commences on the first Wednesday in October, see p. 48.

Each Candidate must pay to the Secretary of the University the Fee of One Pound for his Diploma.

The Examination for the Diploma in Elementary Law embraces the subjects of the courses specified above.

A Gold Medal and £10 will be awarded to the best answerer in a more extended Examination in the same subjects, if he be recommended by the Examiners as possessed of sufficient absolute merit.

III. THE DEGREE OF LL.B.

Students intending to proceed to the Degree of LL.B. and LL.D. must pursue the same course of Legal Study as Candidates for the Diploma in Elementary Law, and must also obtain the Degree of B.A.

The courses of study for the Diploma in Elementary Law, and for the Degree of B.A. need not be pursued simultaneously.

After obtaining the Degree of B.A. they must pursue, in the fourth year, a more extended course of study of the subjects appointed for the Elementary Course, together with a course of study of the Law of Evidence and Pleading in the Courts of Common Law and Equity, of Medical Jurisprudence, and of Constitutional, Colonial, and International Law.

After having completed this course, the Candidate may present himself for Examination for the Degree of LL.B.

The Examination commences on the first Wednesday in October, see p. 48.

Each Candidate must pay to the Secretary of the University the Fee of One Pound for his Degree.

The Examination for the Degree of LL.B. embraces the following subjects:

Law of Property and Principles of Conveyancing.
Jurisprudence.

Equity.

Common and Criminal Law.

Civil Law.

Pleading Practice and Evidence.

Constitutional, Colonial, and International Law.

A Gold Medal and £10 will be awarded to the best answerer, in a more extended Examination in the same subjects, if he be recommended as possessed of sufficient absolute merit.

IV.- -THE DEGREE OF LL.D.

Candidates for the Degree of LL.D. are admitted to Examination for that Degree from the Queen's University in Ireland at the expiration of two years after they have obtained the Degree of LL.B.

They are examined in the Laws of the Admiralty and Ecclesiastical Courts of England and Ireland, in addition to the subjects of Examination for the Degree of LL.B.

The Examination for the Degree of LL.D. commences on the first Wednesday in October.

The Fee for the Degree of LL.D. is Three Pounds.
