There is likewise a Voluntary Class for more advanced Students of both years, which meets at 12, noon, every Thursday; and in which will be read Cicero's Epistles to Atticus.

Students are recommended to provide themselves with Andrews' (or Smith's) Latin Dictionary, and copies of the authors read in the Bibliotheca Teubneriana (a set of editions published by Teubner of Leipsic)..

HISTORY AND ENGLISH LITERATURE.

1849.-GEORGE LILLIE CRAIK, M.A.

I.-The English Language.

This Class, which is attended by students in Arts of the First year, meets at 1 o'clock, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, during the First Term of the Session. There have also always been a number of supplemental meetings (attendance upon which is voluntary) throughout the Second Term.

The business of the class is conducted by lectures and viva voce Examinations, by Critical Readings, and by Written Exercises. Professor Craik's work, entitled "Outlines of the History of the English Language," is used as a text-book.

II.—History and English Literature.

This class, which is attended by Students in Arts of the Third year, meets at 12, noon, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, during the First and Second Terms of the Session. The subjects of lecture are the Principles of Esthetic Criticism, with the History of Literature and Learning in England, the Outlines of Historical Geography, the general course of the History of the World, and the Principles of Chronological and Historical Science, with a portion of actual history.

MODERN LANGUAGES.

1849.-MATHIAS JOSEPH FRINGS, Ph. D.

I.-The French Language.

This class meets Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, at 9, A.M., during the College Session, and for Medical Students on Mondays and Thursdays, at 4, P.M.

The business of the class is conducted by Lectures, and Translations from French into English, and vice versâ ; by viva voce Examinations, Critical Readings, and by Written Exercises. The subjects of lectures are the History of French Literature, and the difficulties, peculiarities, and genius of the French Language.

II.-The German Language.

This class meets Tuesdays and Fridays, at 9, A.M., during the College Session.

The business of this class consists of Lectures, Translations from German into English, and vice versa, of Oral Examinations, Critical Readings, and Written Exercises. The subjects of lectures are the History of German Literature, the difficulties, peculiarities, and genius of the German Language. An advanced class in French is held on Tuesdays and Fridays, from 4 to 5, P.M.; and in German, on Mondays, from 2 to 3, P.M., and on Saturdays, from 9 to 10 A.M. The fee is reduced for students of 2nd and 3rd year, who have previously attended this class, and wish to take an extended course. Non-matriculated Students admitted on payment of the usual fee.

For Students in Arts and Engineering of the First year, the Mathematical Class meets at 10, A.M., Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, during the College Terms.

The subjects of lecture are-Euclid, Books I. II. III. IV. VI., with portions of XI. XII., Algebra, Plane Trigonometry, and the principal properties of the Conic Sections treated Geometrically.

For Students in Arts and Engineering of the Second year, the Mathematical Class meets at 9, A.M., on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, during the College Terms.
