27 And he faid, If the LORD do not help thee, whence fhall I help thee? out of the Barn floor, or out

of the Wine prefs?

54 So that the Man that is tender among you, and very delicate, his Eye fhall be evil towards his Brother, and towards the Wife of his Bofom,. and towards the Remnant of his Children which he fhall leave: 55 So that he will not give to any of them of the Flefh of his Children whom he fhall eat because he hath nothing left him in the Siege, and in the Straitnefs wherewith thine Enemies fhall diftrefs thee in all thy Gates.

28 And the King faid unto her, What aileth thee? And the answered, This Woman faid unto me, Give thy

Son, that we may eat him To-day, and we will eat my Son To-morrow.

56 The tender and DELICATE Woman among you, which would not adventure to fet the Sole of her Foor upon the GROUND for DELICATENESS and Tendernefs, her EYE fhall be EVIL towards the HUSBAND of her Bofom, and towards her SON, and towards her Daughter.

57 And towards her Young one that cometh out from between her Feet, and towards her Children which fhe fhall bear for fhe fhall EAT them for want of all Things fecretly in the SIEGE, and Straitnefs wherewith thine Enemies fhall diftrefs thee in thy Gates.

58 If thou wilt not OBSERVE to do all the Words of this Law that are written in this Book, that thou mayest FEAR this GLORIOUS and FEARFUL Name, THE LORD THY GOD;

59 Then the LORD will make thy PLAGUES wonderful, and the PLAGUES of thy SEED, even great Plagues, and of long Continuance, and fore Sickneffes, and of long Conti

nuance.

60 Morcover, he will bring upon thee all the Difeafes of Egypt, which thou waft afraid of; and they fhall cleave unto thee.

61 Alfo every Sicknefs, and every Plague which is not written in the Book of this Law, them will the LORD bring upon thee, until thou be DESTROYED.

62 And ye fhall be left FEW in Number, whereas ye

were

were as the STARS of Heaven for Multitude: because thou wouldft not OBEY the Voice of the LORD thy GOD.

63 And it shall come to pafs, that as the LORD rejoyced over you to do you good, and to multiply you: fo the LORD will rejoyce over you to DESTROY you, and to bring you to nought and ye fhall be plucked from off the Land whither thou goeft to poffefs it.

64 And the LORD fhall fcatter thee among all People from the one End of the Earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt ferve other Gods, which neither thou nor thy Fathers have known, even Wood and Stone.

65 And among thefe Nations fhalt thou find no EASE, neither fhall the Sole of thy Foot have REST: but the LORD fhall give thee there a trembling Heart, and Failing of Eyes, and Sorrow of Mind.

66 And thy Life shall hang in doubt before thee, and thou shalt FEAR Day and Night, and fhalt have none Af furance of thy Life.

67 In the MORNING thou fhalt fay, Would God it were EVEN and at EVEN thou fhalt fay, Would GOD it were MORNING, for the FEAR of thine Heart, wherewith thou fhalt fear, and for the Sight of thine Eyes which thou fhalt fee.

68 And the LORD fhall bring thee into Egypt again, with Ships, by the way whereof I fpake unto thee, Thou fhalt fee it no more again and there ye fhall be fold unto your Enemies for Bond-men and Bond-women, and no Man fhall buy you.

CHA P. XXIX.

2 An Exhortation to Obedience. 29 Secret Things belong unto GOD.

Ver. 1 THE are the

Ver. 1THESE are the WORDS of the COVENANT which the LORD commanded Mofes to make with the Children of Ifrael, in the Land of Moab, befide the Covenant which he made with them in Horeb.

2 And Mofes called unto all Ifrael, and faid unto them, Ye have feen all that the LORD did before your Eyes in the Land of Egypt, unto Pharaoh, and unto all his Servants, and unto all his Land;

3 The great TEMPTATIONS which thine Eyes have feen, the SIGNS and thofe great MIRACLES:

4 Yet the LORD hath not given you an Heart to perceive, and Eyes to fee, and Ears to hear, unto this Day.

5 And I have led you FORTY Years in the Wilderness : your CLOATHS are not waxen old upon you, and thy SHOE is not waxen old upon thy Foot.

6 Ye have not eaten Bread, neither have ye drunk Wine, nor Strong drink that ye might know that I am the LORD your GoD

7 And when ye came unto this Place, Sihon the King of Hefhbon, and Og the King of Bafhan, came out against us unto Battle, and we fmote them.

8 And we took their Land, and gave it for an Inheritance unto the Rheubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the Half-tribe of Manaffeh.

9 KEEP therefore the WORDS of this COVENANT and do them, that ye may PROSPER in all that ye DO.

10 Ye ftand this Day all of you before the LORD your GOD; your Captains of your Tribes, your Elders, and your Officers, with all the Men of Ifrael,

11 Your Little ones, your Wives, and thy Stranger that is in thy Camp, from the Hewer of thy Wood, unto the Drawer of thy Water.

12 That thou fhouldft enter into COVENANT with the LORD thy GOD, and into his OATH, which the LORD thy GOD maketh with thee this Day:

13 That he may eftablish thee To-day for a People unto himself, and that he may be unto thee a GOD, as he hath faid unto thee, and as he hath fworn unto thy Fathers, to Abraham, to Ifaac, and to Jacob.

14 Neither with you only do I make this Covenant and this Oath;

15 But with him that ftandeth here with us this Day before the LORD our GoD, and alfo with him that is not here with us this Day:

16 (For ye know how we have dwelt in the Land of Egypt, and how we came through the Nations which ye paffed by.

17 And ye have feen their ABOMINATIONS and their I DOLS, Wood and Stone, Silver and Gold, which were among them)

18 Left there fhould be among you MAN or WoMAN, or Family, or Tribe, whofe HEART TURNETH away this Day from the LORD our GoD, to go and ferve the Gods of these Nations; left there fhould be among you a Rooт that beareth GALL and WORMWOOD.

Heb. xii. Is Looking diligently, LEST any Man FAIL of the GRACE of

GOD; left any ROOT of BITTERNESS fpringing up, TROUBLE YOU, and thereby many be DEFILED.

Heb. iii. 8 HARDEN not your HEARTS, as in the Provocation, in the Day of Temptation in the Wilderness.

9 When your Fathers TEMPTED me, ty Years. PROVED me, and SAW MY WORKS for

10 Wherefore I was GRIEVED with that Generation, and faid, They do alway ERR in their HEART ; and they have not known my Ways.

II SO I SWARE in my Wrath. They fhall not ENTER into my REST. 12 TAKE HEED, Brethren, left there be in any of you an EVIT HEART OF UNBELIEF, in DEPARTING from the LIVING GOD.

13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called, To-day; LEST any of you be HARDNED through the DECEITFULNESS of SIN.

50 The LORD of that Servant fhall come in a DAY when he looketh not for him, and in an Hour that he is not ware of;

51 And fhall CUT him afunder, and APPOINT him his PORTION with the HYPOCRITES: there shall be wEEPING and GNASHING of TEETH,

20 The LORD will not SPARE him, but then the ANGER of the LORD, and Ezek. xiv. 7 For every one of the his Jealoufy fhall smoke a- House of Ifrael, or of the Stranger gainst that Man, and all the that fojourneth in Ifrael, which feCURSES that are written in this Book fhall lie upon him, and the LORD fhall BLOT out his Name from under Hea

yen.

21 And the LORD fhall SEPARATE him unto EVIL, out of all the Tribes of Ifrael, according to all the Curfes of the Covenant, that are written in this Book of the Law:

22 So that the Generation to come of your Children that

parateth himfelf from me, and fetteth up his IDOLs in his HEART, and putteth the Stumbling-block of his INIQUITY before his Face, and cometh to a Prophet to enquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will anfwer him by myself.

8 And I will fet my Face againft that Man, and will make him a Sign and a Proverb, and I will CUT him OFF from the midst of my People, and ye fall know that I am the

LORD.

fhall rise up after you, and in the Defert, and fhall not fee when

the Stranger that fhall come from a far Land, fhall fay, when they see the Plagues of that Land, and the Sickneffes which the LORD hath laid upon it;

parched Places in the Wilderness, in a falt Land, and not inhabited.

Good cometh, but fhall inhabit the

23 And that the whole Land thereof is Brimftone, and Salt, and Burning, that it is not fown, nor beareth, nor any Grafs groweth therein, like the Overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his Anger, and in his Wrath:

24 Even all Nations fhall fay, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this Land? what meaneth the Heat of this great Anger?

25 Then Men fhall fay, Because they have forfaken the Covenant of the LORD GOD of their Fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the Land of Egypt.

26 For they went and ferved other Gods, and worshipped them, Gods whom they knew not, and whom he had not given unto them.

27 And the Anger of the LORD was kindled against this Land, to bring upon it all the Curfes that are written in this Book.

28 And the LORD rooted them out of their Land in Anger, and in Wrath, and in great Indignation, and caft them into another Land, as it is this Day.

29 The SECRET THINGS belong unto the LORD our GOD: but thofe Things which are revealed belong unto us, and to our Children for ever, that we may do all the Words of this Law.

Ecclef. xii. 14 GOD fhall bring every WORK into JUDGMENT, with every SECRET THING, whether it be

GOOD, or whether it be EVIL.

Jer. xxiii 24 Can any HIDE himfelf in SECRET Places. that I fhall not fee him? faith the LORD: do not I

FILL HEAVEN and EARTH? faith the
LORD.
