Improvements and personal property to be taxed.

AN ACT

To authorize the the taxation of personal property in the county of Dodge.

Be it enacted by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

SECTION 1. In the county of Dodge, in addition to the property now subject to taxation by law, the following prop erty shall be assessed and taxed in the same manner as is now provided by law for all purposes, to wit: All improvements on land, town lots, and real estate, and all personal property. The term personal property, as used in this act, shall be construed to include moneys, goods, chattels, chattels real, debts due from solvent debtors, over and above the amount of debts owing by the owner thereof, whether due on account, contract, notes, bond, or mortgage, public stocks, or stocks in corporations, and the stocks or shares in steam boats, or other vessels: Provided, that the following property shall

be exempt from taxation in said county, to wit: All proper

ty belonging to the United States, to this territory, any coun- What exempt ty college, academy, or other seminary of learning, or any from taxation. public library; and also all buildings for public worship, and all school houses, and the lots whereon they are situated, and all interest, or shares in the same; every poor house, alms house, house of industry, and the real and personal estate connected with the same, and all property exempted by law from execution.

AN ACT

To change the name of William Dick, junior, to that of William Hamlin Dick.

Be it enacted by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

SECTION 1. That William Dick, junior, a citizen of the town of Manchester, in the county of Calumet, and territory aforesaid, shall hereafter be known, and recognized by the name of William Hamlin Dick.

Fall terms

when held.

AN ACT

To change the time of holding the fall terms of the district court in the second judicial district.

Be it enacted by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin :

SECTION 1. The fall term of the district court shall be holden at the county seat of the several counties in the second judicial district hereinafter mentioned at the times herein specified, to wit: in the county of Portage on the third Monday in August; Columbia county, the second Monday after the third Monday in August; Sauk county, the third Monday after the third Monday in August; Jefferson county, fourth Monday after the third Monday in August; Walworth county, fifth Monday after the third Monday in August; Rock county, the seventh Monday after the third Monday in August; Green county, ninth Monday after the third Monday in August; Dane county, tenth Monday after the third Monday in August.

SEC. 2. So much of any and all former acts as conflict with the provisions of this act are hereby repealed.

AN ACT

To provide for the payment of Vial & Varney, for work done on the Capitol.

Be it enacted by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

SECTION 1. There shall be paid out of the monies in the territorial treasury, to A. Vial and E. S. Varney, the sum of two hundred and twenty-five dollars, it being in full payment for the balance due them as per contract with superintendent of territorial property for work done on the capitol.
