pastof any of the officers of this corporation shall be discovered, a special meeting of the stockholders shall be immediately called and any charges that may have been preferred against any officer shall be enquired into and on conviction thereof such officer shall be promptly retroved, or if any cause or policy in the transaction of the business of this company be pursued contrary to the wishes of a majority of the stockholders, these objections shall be in writing and be filed in the office of this company, and deemed as part and parcel of the by-laws of the corporation.

cause shown, but in all cases such officer shall be duly notified and informed of the charges preferred against him.

Sec. 20. In all cases of transfer it shall be by indorsement on the certificate, and the person to whom such transfer is made, shall personally or by his attorney or agent duly authorized, become a party to these presents by signing and sealing the same, and such transfer shall be registered in the register aforesaid, and the old certificate shall be surrendered and cancelled and a new one in like forth issued to the assignec.

SEC. 21. The legislature of the Territory or future State of Wisconsin shall have power at any time to alter, athend or repeal this act.

SEC. 22. This charter shall not be so construed as to give or allow banking, or any other privileges than such as are expressly expressed in this act.

AN ACT for the relief of Benton & Garfield.

BE IT ENACTED by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

SECTION 1. There shall be allowed and paid out of the funds in the territorial treasury, to Benton & Garfield, the sum of four. hundred seventy-six dollars and thirty-two cents, for stationery and candles furnished the Legislative Assembly for the session of 1839, and '40; and the sum of one hundred ninety-nine dollars and ninety-seven cents for six years interest on the same. APPROVED January 20, 1816.

AN ACT to authorize School District No. 1 in the School Town of Wisconsin, in Grant County, to levy an additional tax for paying a debt incurred in building a school house.

BE IT ENACTED by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

SECTION 1. That it shall and may be lawful for the trustees' of school district No. 1, in the School town of Wisconsin, in the county of Grant, to levy a tax on the taxable property of said dis

trict in addition to the tax now allowed by law, not to exceed the sum of two hundred dollars for the purpose of paying the debt now due for building a school house in said district and for no other purpose.

SEC. 2. The said tax shall be collected and returned in the same manner that is now provided by law for the collection of taxes for building school houses. APPROVED February 3rd, 1846.

AN ACT to provide for the payment of the expenses of the Legislative Assembly for the year 1846. BE IT ENACTED by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

SECTION 1. There shall be paid out of the sum appropriated by Congress, for defraying the expenses of the present session of the Legislative Assembly of this Territory, as follows, viz:

To Simeon Mills, for materials for printing done at the last session, one hundred and eighty dollars and sixty-two cents.

Also, for folding and stitching messages, rules, reports and bills at the last session twenty five dollars.

The above appropriations were passed by the Legislature at their last session and left out of the enrolled bill by the mistake of the clerk.

To S. L. Rood, for stationery, the sum of three hundred seventy-five dollars and ten cents ($375 10.)

To W. H. Foot, for hauling stationery and chairs from Milwaukee, for the use of the Legislative Assembly, nineteen dollars. To Darwin Clark, for repairing furniture and materials found for the same, twenty-four dollars.

To H. L. Page, for sperm candles for the use of Legislative Assembly, forty-seven dollars and ninety cents.

To Joseph Brisbois, for writing done for the Legislative Astem. bly, twelve dollars.

To Mason C. Darling, three dollars per day, extra, for thirty days' services as speaker of the House of Representatives, ninety dollars.

To Nelson Dewey, three dollars per day, extra, for thirty days' services as president of the Council, ninety dollars.

To David Holt, Postmaster, at Madison, for postage on letters, papers and other documents of the members of the Legislative Assembly during the present session, three hundred and seventyeight dollars, which shall be paid previous to any appropriation in this act.

To Elijah Isham, for services rendered the Legislative Assembly at its present session, in making fires, carrying wood, sweeping capitol, and attending on committee rooms and library, ninety dollars.

To Joseph Brisbois, for writing done for the Ligislative Assembly at its present session, ninety dollars.

To John Ramsdall, for writing done for the Legislative Assembly at its present session, ninety dollars.

To La Fayette Kellogg for preparing the journal of the House of Representatives of the present session for publication and affixing an index thereto, two hundred dollars.

To Ben C. Eastman and William R. Smith, for preparing the journal of the Council of the present session for publication and affixing an index thereto, each one hundred dollars.

To Simeon Mills for incidental printing done for the Legislative Assembly at its present session, including newspapers furnished the members of the Assembly, and for newspapers containing the laws of last session sent to clerks of the several counties for distribution as provided by a law of said session, thirteen hundred eighty-eight dollars and sixty-eight cents.

To Henry Gullion, for white-washing, repairing carpet, and materials furnished in the executive office, twelve dollars.

To Eliab B. Dean, jr., for stationery and other articles furnished for the use of the Legislative Assembly at its present session, twenty-one dollars and sixteen cents.

To Ebenezer Clewett for two days' labor cleaning capitol, three dollars.

To Martin G. Vanbergen for twenty days' labor, clearing off the capitol square and preparing the building for present session;

twenty-five dollars, from which sum is to be deducted fifteen dollars for a Franklin stove sold the said Vanbergen by the superintendent of territorial property.

To J. L. Marsh, for newspapers furnished the members of the Legislative Assembly, at the present session, seven doilars and eighty cents.

To John Myers, for three days' labor and materials furnished in repairing the gates of the capitol square, seven dollars and thirty nine cents,

To John S. Fillmore, for newspapers furnished the members of the Legislative Assembly at the present session, twenty-eight dollars and eighty cents.

To John S. Fillmore, for newspapers furnished the members of the Legislative Assembly at the last session, sixteen dollars and nine cents, which item was allowed at the last session and by mistake the sum left blank in the appropriation bill,

To Robert Moore, for white-washing the fence enclosing the capitol square, and for labor clearing off the square, twenty-five dollars and forty cents.

To Thomas J. Goza for services in sweeping and cleaning capi tol, nine dollars.

To S. M. Vanbergen. for one hundred and sixty cords of wood at one dollar and fifty cents per cord, for the use of the Legisla tive Assembly, two hundred and forty dollars.

Also, for preparing the same for stoves and hauling to steps of capitol one hundred thirty-four and a half cords, at six shillings per cord, one hundred dollars and eighty-seven cents.

To S. M. Vanbergen, for forty cords of wood hauled across the lake, but not yet delivered at the capitol, at one dollar and fifty cents, sixty dollars. The last above appropriation not to be paid until the certificate of the superintendent of territorial property that the said wood has been delivered at the capitol shall be furnished.

To Loring Guild, for newspapers furnished the members of the Legislative Assembly, at the present session, six dollars and twenty cents.

To Beriah Brown, for newspapers furnished the members of the Legislative Assembly at the present session, one hundred and six dollars and thirty-two cents.
