Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord, from henceforth; yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them. Rev. xiv. 13.

Consider the difference made between the righteous and wicked, the moment they leave this world.

Pray for the lot of the righteous, &c.

JAN. 17. O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end! Deut. xxxii. 29.

It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment. Heb. ix. 27. Meditate on your latter end, &c.

Pray for a happy death, &c.

JAN. 18. Take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the Lord charged you. Josh. xxii. 5.

If thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. Matt. xix. 17.

Reflect on the purity of the commandments, &c.

Pray for grace to obey them, &c.

JAN. 19. And the children of Israel said unto the Lord, We have sinned: do thou unto us what

soever seemeth good unto thee; deliver us only, we pray thee, this day. Judges x. 15.

Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. John v. 14. Reflect on the ability of God to deliver you, under any circumstances, &c.

Pray that you may not relapse into sin, &c.

JAN. 20. And the Lord came, and stood and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth. 1 Sam. iii. 10.

While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. Matt. xvii. 5.

Consider how many are the calls of the Almighty,

Pray that you may be attentive to his calls, and obey them.

JAN. 21. And he said, It is the Lord: let him do what seemeth him good. 1 Sam. iii. 18.

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Matt. xvi. 24.

Consider for what purpose crosses and disappointments are sent.

Pray for resignation to the will of God, &c.

JAN. 22. Fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart; for consider how great things he hath done for you. 1 Sam. xii. 24. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. Eph.

i. 3.

Consider how many obligations you are under to the Almighty, &c.

Pray for a grateful heart, &c.

JAN. 23. How long have I to live? 2 Sam. xix. 34.

Take ye heed, watch and pray; for ye know not when the time is. Mark xiii. 33.

Meditate on the uncertainty of life, &c.
Pray for a watchful spirit, &c.

JAN. 24. Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace thereby good shall come unto thee. Job xxii. 21.

Behold, now is the accepted time; behold,

is the day of salvation 2 Cor. vi. 2

Consider the danger of delays, &c.

Pray instantly for God's quickening Spirit, &c.

JAN. 25. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions: so iniquity shall not be your ruin. Ezek. xviii. 30.

And he, trembling and astonished, said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. Acts ix. 6. Call to mind the extraordinary conversion of St. Paul.

Pray that you may be truly converted to God before you die.

JAN. 26. Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments; which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the Lord. Lev. xviii. 5.

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words; and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. John xiv. 23.

Think on the loss you will finally sustain, if you keep not God's statutes, &c.

Pray for God's preventing grace to empower you to keep them, &c.

JAN. 27. And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then,

when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean? 2 Kings v. 13.

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. Acts xvi. 31.

Reflect on the danger of undervaluing any of God's blessings, &c.

Pray for faith in Christ, &c.

JAN. 28. And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left. 2 Kings xxii. 2.

Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. Rev. xxii. 14.

Meditate on the reward of the righteous, &c. Pray that you may obtain it.

JAN. 29. Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak; for your work shall be rewarded. 2 Chron. xv. 7.

Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for he is faithful that promised. Heb. x. 23.

Consider who it is that hath promised to reward

you.

Pray for a steady, humble deportment, &c.
