SIR, In conformity with the requirements of the thirty-third section of an act entitled, "An act to regulate elections," I herewith enclose a list of the members elected to the House of Representatives, as appears from the returns in this office, on the first Monday in August, A. D. 1856. B. F. MASSEY, Secretary of State.

SIR,In conformity with the thirty-fourth section of the law entitled, "An act to regulate elections," I have the honor herewith to enclose an abstract of the votes cast for Governor and Lieutenant-Governor, on the first Monday in August, A. D. 1856.

When Mr. Jones, of Callaway, called for the reading of the abstract of the votes cast of Governor and Lieutenant-Governor. Objections being made, and the question being, "shall the abstract be be read," it was decided in the affirmative.

The abstract was then read, and referred back to the Speaker, with instructions to be laid before the joint session.

On motion of Mr. Graves:

Resolved, That the rules of the House of last session, govern this, until changed.

On motion of Mr. Jones, of Callaway:

Resolved, That the Secretary of State be required to furnish the House with an abstract of the votes for the candidates for Lieutenant-Governor, first returned to his office by the clerk of the county court of Polk county, for the August election, 1856; also, a copy of the amended returns of said clerk, of the date of September 11, 1856; also, a copy of the certificate

of the clerk of the county court of Carroll county, of the date of October 10, 1856, in reference to the votes given for those candidates, at the August election, 1856; and an abstract of the votes of those candidates, first returned to his office by the said clerk of the county court of Carroll county, at said election.

On motion of Mr. Burke:

Resolved, That the Door-keeper of the House be instructed to open an account with the Postmaster, in Jefferson City, during the present session of the General Assembly, for postage required to be pre-paid on printed public documents, deposited by members of the House in the mail, and for postage stamps for the use of the members of the House during the present session; and that the account of the Postmaster be audited by the Committee on Accounts, and paid out of the fund for contingent expenses of the House.

Mr. Blakey offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the House be authorized to subscribe daily newspapers for each member of the House during the session; a list of the papers desired by each member, to be furnished the Clerk; said papers to be paid for out of the contingent fund of the House. On motion of Mr. Darnes, the blank was filled with the number of "six." The resolution was then agreed to, the ayes and noes being demanded by Mr. Edwards :
