COMPTROLLERS OF THE TREASURY.
HE office of Comptroller of the Treasury was established in 1859,
as an intermediate check between the Auditor of State and the
State Treasury. Warrants issued by the Auditor were not payable at the Treasury until countersigned by the Comptroller or his proper representative, whose books were practically duplicates of the books kept in the office of the Auditor and Treasurer. The office was abolished in 1877. General Wilson being then in charge. The following list gives. the names and terms of service of the several incumbents:
W. B. Thrall, 1859-1862; Joseph H. Riley, 1862-1865; Moses R. Brailey, 1865-1871; William T. Wilson, 1871-1877.
Office abolished in 1877.
