FRANK E. GAVIN,

Treasurer.

TREASURER GAVIN: This report will all appear in the printed proceedings, and I would be very glad if each of you would look at the proceedings sufficiently to see that your own payment is included therein. We endeavor to make no mistakes, but if any have been made, we shall be very glad to have them corrected, and if by any chance in looking over the list you should find that your name is not there because the money has not been paid, then it would be well for you to rectify the error on your side.

You will notice when the report is printed that there is not included any payments of dues which came into my hands after the 8th of July. The report was closed upon that evening, and there have been a number of checks received since that time which will not appear in this report. They will go to the

Treasurer for the ensuing year, and will appear in next year's

report.

PRESIDENT PARKER: You have heard the report. Are there any objections? If there are none, and the chair hears none, the report is approved.

The next is the report of the Committee on Jurisprudence and Law Reform.

REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON JURISPRUDENCE AND LAW REFORM.

Mr. President and Gentlemen of the State Bar Association:

At the last meeting of this Association the question of a workmen's compensation law and of a law authorizing industrial insurance was submitted to a special committee and their report has been distributed by the secretary to the members of the State Bar Association. The questions involved in this report are so important and far-reaching in their character that they invite and demand a full discussion, and the time for such discussion is so limited as to leave no opportunity for the adequate consideration of any new measures. The weight given to the recommendations of this Association depends to a large extent upon the fact that such recommendations have received due consideration and that there has been an opportunity for full discussion.

The committee desires to suggest that no special matter was referred to it, so that they thought it would be wiser not to bring before the Association any new questions at this meeting.

However, we venture to suggest the appointment of a special committee to consider and report at the next meeting what

mode, if any, can be devised for the nomination and selection of judges which will more fully protect the independence of the judiciary and its freedom from partisan or other influence. We also recommend that a special committee. be appointed to submit at the next meeting for the consideration of this Association such amendment to existing laws, as may be required, if any, to restrain the issuing of fictitious or watered stock by corporations. July 10, 1912.

JOHN T. DYE, Chairman.
EDWIN TAYLOR,

GEORGE H. KOONS,

LOUDEN S. BOMBERGER,

A. A. ADAMS,

Committee.

PRESIDENT PARKER: You have heard the report of the Committee on Jurisprudence and Law Reform. What is the pleasure of the Association?

SECRETARY BATCHELOR: I move you that the further consideration of the report be deferred until tomorrow afternoon. (Seconded and carried.)

PRESIDENT PARKER: The next report is that of the Committee on Judicial Administration and Remedial Procedure. There is no report from that Committee.

The next is the report of the Committee on Legal Education and Admission to the Bar. There is no report from that Committee.

The next is the report of the Committee on Publication, and there is no report from that Committee.

The next is the report of the Committee on Grievances.
