CHAPTER 102.

An Act to enable the Municipality of the County of Antigonish to Borrow Money.

Be it enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly, as follows:

1. The municipality of the county of Antigonish is, in addition to the sum authorized to be borrowed under the provisions of chapter 78 of the Acts of the Legislature of Nova Scotia, for the year 1905, authorized to borrow on the credit of said municipality, a further sum of nine thousand dollars, for the same purpose, and under the same terms and conditions as prescribed in respect to the sum authorized to be borrowed under said chapter 78 of the Acts of 1905.

2. The municipality of the county of Antigonish is also authorized to borrow the sum of six thousand dollars for

the purpose of erecting a building to be used for municipal offices, and as a jail, and for furnishing the same. The said sum shall be borrowed and the debentures therefor shall be issued under the same terms and conditions as are prescribed in respect to the sum authorized to be borrowed under said chapter 78 of the Acts of 1905.

CHAPTER 103.

An Act to empower the Town Council of the Town of
Hantsport to relieve U. C. Nicholls & Company
from taxation.

Be it enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly, as follows:

1. The Town Council of the town of Hantsport shall have power to exempt from taxation, not including rates

for the support of public schools, for a period not exceeding ten years, the manufacturing industry which is now being carried on, or which may hereafter be established and carried on in the town of Hantsport, by O. C. Nicholls & Co., of Waterville, N. S., and shall also have power, if they see fit so to do, to grant and supply water to the said manufacturing industry free of charge for the said period.

Be it enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly, as follows:

Section 15 of chapter 76 of the Acts of 1901, is Section 15amended by adding thereto the following sub-section :

15 A. The procedure for the issuing of a warrant or warrants of distress, and all proceedings thereunder, shall be mutatis mutandis, the same as are in force under the existing statute law for the collection of rates and taxes in municipalities.

CHAPTER 105.

An Act to enable the Town of Truro to borrow Money.

Be it enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly, as follows:

1. The town of Truro is authorized to borrow on the credit of the town the sum of twenty-two thousand nine hundred dollars for the following purposes, that is to say:

(a) $9,500.00 for a straightening of a twelve-inch main from old Reservoir to Pavilion, and laying of a twelve-inch main from old Railway Reservoir to Prince Street, at corner of Walker Street;

(b) $6,900.00 for installation of a one hundred and fifty horse power boiler, chimney, boiler room and pump;

(c) $1,700.00 for fire alarm additions, three new boxes, striker and whistle, switch-board and case, battery, case and wiring, three circuit repeaters, indicator and gong;

(d) $1,300.00 for small gongs in firemen's houses, six miles of wire, and the installment thereof;

(e) $3,500.00 for sewerage extensions-Park Road,
Exhibition Street, Arthur Street from Dominion
Street west, and Arthur Street from Pleasant to
Young Street.

2. The said town shall issue debentures for said sum, Debentures. redeemable in thirty years, which debentures shall be for such amounts as the Mayor and Town Council shall determine, and which shall bear interest at a rate not exceeding four per cent. per annum. The money borrowed under this Act, and the interest thereon, shall be a charge upon the property and funds of, and shall be paid by the town, and the Council thereof shall annually make provision, by rate and levy, for paying the interest on such debentures and providing a sinking fund to pay such debentures at maturity. Such debentures shall be subject to the provisions of "The Municipal Debentures Act, 1902," and amendments thereof, in so far as the same are consistent with this Act.

5. Inasmuch as the ratepayers of the said town have, in Town meeting the manner by law provided, already authorized the Town Council to apply to the Legislature for authority to borrow said moneys, and to make said expenditure, it shall not be necessary to convene any additional meeting of the said ratepayere, either under the provisions of the "Towns' Incorporation Act" or under this Act, as a condition_precedent to the borrowing of the moneys, the issuing of the town's debentures therefor, or the doing of any matter or thing by this Act authorized.

An Act to enable the Town of Amherst to borrow Money for Water purposes.

Be it enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly, as follows:

1. The town of Amherst is authorized to borrow from time to time, on the credit of the town such sums of money not exceeding twenty-five thousand dollars in the whole (in addition to the sums which the town has heretofore been empowered to borrow for like purposes) for the purposes set forth in section 1 of chapter 112 of the Acts of 1906, and the other Acts relating to the water works system in the said town, and generally for the purpose of extending and improving said system.

For the purpose of effecting any loans under the authority of this Act, the Council is empowered to make and issue, subject to the provisions of the Municipal Debentures Act, 1902, from time to time, as the Council may deem expedient, the town's debentures, each in the sum of one hundred dollars or multiples thereof, bearing interest at such rate as the Council shall determine, not exceeding, however, five per centum per annum, said debentures to be redeemable within such periods, not exceeding thirty years from the date thereof, as the Council may determine.

3. The Council of the town shall annually add to the estimates to be rated each year upon the town for general purposes a sum sufficient to pay the annual interest accruing upon the moneys borrowed under the authority of this. Act, and such sums shall be rated and collected in the same manner and with the same remedies as the other rates and taxes in said town.

4. In order to provide a sinking fund for the payment of the debentures authorized to be issued under this Act, the Town Council shall annually include in the estimates of the sums required for the purposes of the said town in the
