Resolved, that the committee on Education be instructed to inquire into the expediency of granting a copy of Carrigain's map of New Hampshire to Troy Academy.

Mr. Quincy, from the select committee consisting of the delegation from the county of Grafton to nominate five persons as members of the select committee for establishing a new apportionment of the public taxes, by leave, made a report,

Whereupon

Resolved, that Messrs. Parker of Lisbon, Fellows, Perrin, Cheney and Dearborn be of said committee on the part of the county of Grafton.

Mr. Smith of Carroll, from the select committee consisting of the delegation from the county of Coos, to nominate three persons as members of the select committee for establishing a new apportionment of the public taxes, by leave, made a report,

Whereupon

Resolved, that Messrs. Warner, Pitman and Whittemore be of said committee on the part of the county of Coos.

Mr. Tudor, from the select committee consisting of the delegation from the county of Cheshire to nominate four persons as members of the select committee for establishing a new apportionment of the public taxes, by leave, made a report,

Whereupon

Resolved, that Messrs. Chamberlain, Piper and Bellows be of said committee on the part of the county of Cheshire.

Mr. Bean, from the select committee consisting of the delegation from the county of Sullivan to nominate four persons as members of the select committee for establishing a new apportionment of the public taxes, by leave, made a report,

Whereupon

Resolved, that Messrs. Bryant, Meacham, Smith of Lempster and Bean be of said committee on the part of the county of Sullivan.

Mr. Baker of Hillsborough, from the select committee consisting of the delegation from the county of Hillsborough, to nominate seven persons as members of the select committee for establishing a new apportionment of the public taxes, by leave, made a report,

Whereupon

Resolved, that Messrs. Poor of Goffstown, Spaulding, Woodbury, Goodale, Bruce, Ames and Wheeler be of said committee on the part of the county of Hillsborough.

A message in writing was received from His Excellency the Governor by the Secretary of State, which was read and is as follows:

"To the Honorable Senate

and House of Representatives:

I herewith inclose the Warden's statement of the affairs of the State Prison and his estimate of the amount of funds necessarily employed in the management of the same.

Ordered, that the message of His Excellency the Governor, with the accompanying report, lie on the table, and that the Clerk be directed to procure three hundred printed copies of said report for the use of the House.

On motion of Mr. Treadwell

Resolved, that the House are now ready to meet the Senate in Convention, for the purpose of proceeding in the elections agreeably to the laws of this State.

IN CONVENTION.

The Senate and House of Representatives being met in Convention in the Representatives' Hall

Mr. Gregg of the Senate, from the joint select committee to whom were referred the votes for Electors of President and Vice President of the United States, to examine, compare and cast their numbers, and report thereon, made the following

And that John W. Weeks, Stephen Perley, Samuel Hatch, Andrew Pierce, jr., John Scott, Francis Holbrook and Samuel Burns are chosen Electors of President and Vice President of the United States.

The return of votes from Society Land, being for John W. Weeks, Stephen Perley, Samuel Hatch, Andrew Pierce, jr., John Scott, Francis Holbrook and Samuel Burns, thirty-one each; and for John Healey, George W. Nesmith, Joseph Cilley, Andrew Pierce, William Bixby, Thomas M. Edwards and Amos A. Brewster, one each, were not included in the above estimate not having been seasonably returned.

The votes for Samuel Patch and those for George Nesmith

were returned from the town of Temple, none for Samuel Hatch or George W. Nesmith; those for Amos Brewster from the towns of Lempster and Bethlehem, none for Amos A. Brewster; those for John P. Weeks from the town of Bristol, none for John W. Weeks; those for Thomas Edwards from the towns of Salem and Croydon, none for Thomas M. Edwards; those for George B. Nesmith from the town of Milford, none for George W. Nesmith; those for John Weeks from the towns of Alexandria and Northumberland, none for John W. Weeks. From the town of Windham no votes are returned for Andrew Pierce, jr.

The foregoing report having been read,

On motion of Mr. Quincy of the House-
Resolved, that the same be accepted.

Mr. Sawyer of Nashua of the House submitted the following resolutions:

"Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives in Con vention assembled, that the town clerks of the following towns to wit: Temple, Lempster, Bethlehem, Bristol, Salem, Croydon, Milford, Alexandria, Northumberland and Windham be and they hereby are required to appear before the Senate and House of Representatives in Convention on the first day of December next, for the purpose of amending their respective returns or certificates of votes given in the several towns aforesaid for Electors of President and Vice President of the United States and of amending their respective town records of said votes, and to bring with them their respective town records of the meetings held in said towns on the second day of November instant, and that the Clerk of the House of Representatives cause a copy of this resolution to be served on each of the town clerks aforesaid,as soon as may be.

Resolved, that a committee of ten be appointed, whose duty it shall be to summon before them the town clerks of the several towns aforesaid, as they shall appear in obedience to the requirement contained in the foregoing resolution, and to examine them upon oath touching any error in their respective records or returns aforesaid, and to report to the Convention thereon.

On motion of Mr. Baker of Hillsborough-
Ordered, that said resolution lie on the table.
On motion of Mr. Pickering of the Senate-
The Convention rose and the Senate withdrew.

IN HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

On motion of Mr. Hatch of Exeter

Resolved, that the committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of so amending the several laws of this State in relation to corporations, as that the private property of each member of said corporation shall be liable for the debts and liabilities of said corporation, and for the better security to the creditors of said corporations, their claims against the same, and report by bill or otherwise.

On motion of Mr. Warner

Resolved, that a committee be appointed on the part of the House, with such as the Hon. Senate may join, to give information to his excellency the Governor, that John W. Weeks, Stephen P'erley, Samuel Hatch, Andrew Peirce, Jr., John Scott, Francis Holbrook, and Samuel Burns are duly chosen by the people of this state, Electors of President and Vice President of the United States.

Ordered, that Messrs. Warner, Chamberlain of Keene, and Leavitt of Gilmanton be the committee.

On motion of Mr. Parker of Fitzwilliam

Resolved, that his excellency the Governor be requested to communicate to this House what progress has been made in the revision of the laws of this state agreeably to a resolve passed June session, 1840.

Mr. Knapp gave notice that he will on Monday next, ask leave to introduce a bill entitled "An act to abolish imprisonment for debt."

Mr. Cate, from the select committee consisting of the delegation from the county of Merrimack, to nominate six persons as members of the select committee for establishing a new apportionment of the public taxes, by leave, made a report,

Whereupon

Resolved, that Messrs. Ayer, Shute, Smith of Bedford, Little of Boscawen, Martin, and George of Salisbury, be of said committee on the part of the county of Merrimack.

Mr. Page of Coventry gave notice that he will on Monday next ask leave to introduce a bill entitled an act to change the name of the town of Coventry to Benton.
