Mr. Dame moved that the bill be amended by striking out the words “Alton, Barnstead," in the fifth line of the second section.

Mr. Ela of Meredith moved that the bill be amended by striking out the words "the property of the county in which the same may be situated,” at the close of the ninth section, and inserting instead thereof, the words "appraised, and the amount be divided equally between the counties of Strafford, Belknap and Carroll according to their proportion of public taxes.”

But before the question was taken,

Mr. Copp moved that the bill be recommitted to the select committee who have had that subject under consideration.

And the question being put,

So the bill was recommitted to said committee.

Mr. Knapp gave notice that he will to-morrow ask leave to introduce a bill entitled "An act in addition to and explanatory of an act relating to railroads and other corporations, passed June 20, 1840."

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 16, 1840. Mr. Lane presented the account of Peter Smart. Ordered, that it be referred to the committee on Claims.

Mr. Lane presented the petition of A. B. Marshall and others, praying for the enactment of a law prohibiting shooting matches, horse racing and other games of chance.

Ordered, that it be referred to the committee on the Judiciary.

Mr. Durgin presented the petition of Benjamin Colby, jr., praying for the alteration of his name.

Ordered, that it be referred to the committee on the alteration of Names.

Mr. Gilman presented the petition of Elihu T. Stevens, an officer of the 4th regiment N. H. militia, praying for the removal of officers.

Ordered, that it be referred to the committee on Military Affairs.

Mr. Bennett, from the commiitee on Elections, io u hom was referred the petition of Solomon Jesseman and others, inhabitants of Franconia in the county of Gralton, praying that said town of Franconia be autborized to send a representative to the General Court, made a report,

Whereupon

Resolvd, that the further consideration of said petition be postponed to the next session of the Legislature.

..Mr, Bennett, from the same committee, to whom was referred the resolution classing the towns of Woodstock and Lincoln in the county of Grafton, for the purpose of electing a representative to the General Court; and also classing the towns of Ellsworth and Waterville in the county of Grafton for the same purpose, made a further report,

Resolved, that said resolution be indefinitely postponed.

Mi. Lane, from the committee on Claims, to whom were referred the accounts of George W. Dow and others, reported the following resolution:

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened, that George W. Dow be allowed the sum of one hundred and ten dollars; Ezekiel Hurd eight dollars; John Whipple two dollars and thirty-seven cents; John Putnam ten dollars and seventeen cents; Daniel M. Smith nine dollars and seventeen cents; Jonathan Wedgewood fourteen dollars and thirtyfour çents;. Samuel W. Şimpson eigho, dollars and seventy-four cents, and Leonard Farley nine dollars and thirty-four cents, in full for their several accounts, the same to be paid out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated.

Mr. Hoit of Bridgewater, from the committee on Towns and Parishes, to whom was referred the petition of Viriling Gregg and others, praying that a tract of land in the town of Sharon be serered from said town, and annexed to the town of Peterborough,
