AFTERNOON.

Mr. Gregg, from the committee on the Judiciary to whom was referred so much of the Governor's message at the last June session, as relates to the abolition of imprisonment for debt, made a report

Whereupon

Resolved, that said committee be discharged from the further consideration of that subject.

Mr. Goodhue from the committee on Claims to whom was referred the resolution in favor of the selectmen of Shelburne, reported it without amendment.

On the question, shall this resolution be read a third time?

It was decided in the affirmative.

Said resolution was accordingly read a third time.

Resolved, that it pass.

Ordered, that the Clerk notify the House of Representatives ac cordingly.

Mr. Goodhue, from the same committee to whom was referred the resolution in favor of William Fisk and others, reported it without amendment.

The House concur with the Honorable Senate in the passage of the bill entitled "An act in amendment of an act entitled an act in addition to and in amendment of an act prescribing the duty and regulating the office of Sheriff, passed June 29, 1829."

The first of the foregoing bills, sent up from the House of Representatives for concurrence, was read a first and second time. Ordered, that it be referred to the committee on Incorporations.

The second of said bills was read a first and second time. Ordered, that it be referred to the committee on Incorporations.

The foregoing resolution, sent up from the House of Representatives for concurrence, was read a first and second time. Ordered, that it be referred to the committee on Claims.

Mr. Adams, from the committee on Education, to whom was referred the bill entitled "An act to incorporate the Durham Academy," reported it without amendment.

Resolved, that the rules of the Senate be so far suspended that this bill be read a third time at the present time. Said bill was accordingly read a third time.

Resolved, that it pass and its title be as aforesaid.

Resolved, that the rules of the Senate be so far suspended that this bill be read a third time at the present time by its title. Said bill was accordingly read a third time.

Mr. Brown moved that the further consideration of the bill be postponed to the next session of the Legislature.

On the question, shall the further consideration of the bill be thus postponed?

Mr. Adams demanded the yeas and nays.

Those who voted in the affirmative were Messrs. Creighton, Comerford and Brown-3.

Those who voted in the negative were Messrs. Gregg, Renton, Nutter, Adams, Belding, Nettleton, Goodhue and John

son-8.

So the motion did not prevail to postpone the bill to the next

session.

Mr.Belding demanded the ayes and noes.

Those who voted in the affirmative were Messrs. Adams and Belding-2.

Those who voted in the negative were Messrs. Pickering, Creighton, Gregg, Renton, Nutter, Comerford, Brown, Nettleton, Goodhue and Johnson-10

So the motion to postpone to the next session did not prevail.

It was decided in the affirmative.

Resolved, that the rules of the Senate be so far suspended, that this resolution be read a third time at the present time by its title Said bill was accordingly read a third time.

FIVE O'CLOCK.

The following address laid upon the table by Mr. Renton, Senator from District No. 4, was read by the Clerk and unanimously adopted.

"Hon. JAMES B. CREIGHTON, President

SIR:

The members of the Senate take pleasure in presenting their acknowledgements to you for the faithful and impartial manner, in which you have discharged the duties devolving upon you as their presiding officer the present session."

To which the president replied:

"SENATORS

Justice to my feelings requires me to return you my sincere thanks for the kindness manifested in the adoption of the address just read, as also for that uniform attention, aid and support which you have so generously extended to the Chair while I have had the honor to preside over your deliberations, and to assure you of my satisfaction in believing that each and every member of this body have been governed in the discharge of their official duties in this House, by an ardent desire to promote the public inter

est.

As we are soon to separate, and probably for the last time, permit me to say that in future time, the recollection of that unbroken harmony and uniform kindness which have prevailed in this Honorable body during the present and past sessions, will, to me, be a source of much happiness so long as I may retain a rational exis

tence.

Please, Senators, to accept the assurance of my best wishes for your safe and joyous return to your several families and domestic circles, and also, for your future and everlasting welfare and happiness."

Resolved, that the Senate have a further recess until half past six o'clock this evening.
