Ordered, that said bill be considered on its second reading for the purpose of amendment.

Mr. Pickering proposed to amend the bill in the sixteenth line of the second section by striking out the words "thirty thousand dollars," and inserting instead thereof the words "fifteen thousand dollars annually"—

Which was decided in the affirmative.

Mr. Johnson moved that the further consideration of the bill be postponed to the next session of the Legislature.

Mr. Pickering demanded the yeas and nays.

Those who voted in the affirmative were-Messrs. Gregg, Renton, Comerford, Brown, Nettleton, Goodhue, and Johnson,

So the further consideration of the bill was postponed to the next session of the Legislature.

Mr. Johnson, from the committee on Military Affairs, to whom was referred the bill entitled "An act providing for exemption in certain cases from military duty," reported it without amendment. On the question, shall this bill be read a third time?

It was decided in the affirmative.

Mr. Nettleton, from the committee on Roads, Bridges and Canals, to whom was referred the bill entitled "An act in amendment of an act entitled an act for laying out highways, passed July 3, 1829,❞ made a report,

Mr. Adams, from the committee on Education to whom was referred the bill entitled "An act to incorporate the Nashua Academy," reported it without amendment.

The Senate resumed the consideration of the bill entitled "An act in addition to and explanatory of an act relating to railroads and other corporations, passed June 20, 1840."

The question recurring on the motion of Mr. Pickering that the further consideration of said bill be postponed to the next session of the Legislature

On the question, shall the further consideration of the bill be thus postponed?

Those who voted in the negative were Messrs. Creighton, Renton, Comerford, Adams, Brown, Belding, Nettleton and Goodhue-8.

So the motion did not prevail.

Mr. Pickering moved that the further consideration of the bill be indefinitely postponed.
