The foregoing resolution, sent up from the House of Representatives for concurrence, was read a first and second

time.

Ordered, that it be referred to the committee on Claims. The Senate proceeded to the consideration of the bill entitled "An act to incorporate the proprietors of Colebrook Bridge," together with their amendment thereto in which the House had refused to concur.

On motion of Mr. Goodhue

Ordered, that the bil! and amendment lie upon the table.

Mr. Goodhue, from the joint committee on Engrossed Bills, reported that they had carefully examined and found correctly engrossed bills and resolutions with the following titles:

“An act in addition to and in amendinent of an act entitled an act regulating process and trials in civil causes."

"An act to render Railroad corporations liable for damages by fire or steam."

"An act in addition to former acts relating to the powers and duties of surgeons."

"An act to incorporate a town by the name of Pittsburg." "A resolution appropriating seven thousand dollars for the use of the State Prison."

"A resolution appropriating five hundred dollars for the contingent expenses of this State."

A message was received from the House of Representatives giving information that the Speaker of that body had signed the

foregoing bills and resolutions, reported as correctly engrossed by the committee on Engrossed Bills, and their Clerk was directed to lay them before the Senate for the signature of their President.

Thereupon the President of the Senate signed said bills and resolutions, and the same were delivered to the committee on Engrossed Bills, to be laid before the Governor for his approval and signature.

Mr. Goodhue, from said committee, reported that they had this day presented the aforesaid bills and resolutions by them reported as correctly engrossed, to His Excellency the Governor for his approval.

The Senate adjourned.

Mr. Goodhue, from the committee on Claims, to whom was referred the resolution in favor of Joseph Cofran, reported it without amendment.

On the question, shall this resolution be read a third time?
It was decided in the affirmative.

Resolved, that the rules of the Senate be so far suspended that this resolution be read a third time at the present time. Said resolution was accordingly read a third time.

Resolved, that it pass.

Ordered, that the Clerk notify the House of Representatives accordingly.

On motion of Mr. Goodhue

The Senate resumed the consideration of the bill entitled "An act to incorporate the proprietors of Colebrook Bridge," together with their amendment thereto in which the House refused to

concur.

Mr. Renton moved that the Senate insist upon their amendment to said bill.

On the question, will the Senate insist upon their amendment? Mr. Renton demanded the yeas and nays.

Those who voted in the affirmative were Messrs. Creighton, Gregg, Renton, Comerford, Adams, Brown, Belding, Nettleton and Goodhue-9.

Those who voted in the negative were Messrs. Pickering and Johnson-2.

So the Senate insisted upon their amendment to said bill. Ordered, that the Clerk notify the House of Representatives accordingly.

A message from the House of Representatives by their Clerk:

"Mr. President-The House of Representatives have passed a bill entitled "An act in addition to an act entitled an act for the support and regulation of primary schools, passed July 6, 1827," and a resolution in favor of George P. Meserve and others; in which they ask the concurrence of the Honorable Senate."

The foregoing bill, sent up from the House of Representatives for concurrence, was read a first and second time.

Ordered, that it be referred to the committee on Education. The foregoing resolution, sent up from the House of Representatives for concurrence, was read a first and second time." Ordered, that it be referred to the committee on Claims.

A message from the House of Representatives by their Clerk:

"Mr. President-The House of Representatives insist upon their disagreement to the amendment of the Honorable Senate to the bill entitled "An act to incorporate the proprietors of Colebrook bridge," ask a committee of conference, and have, on their part, appointed Messrs. Warner, Swasey and Merrill of Enfield, such committee."

The Senate proceeded to the consideration of the bill entitled "An act to incorporate the proprietors of Colebrook bridge," together with their amendment thereto, upon their disagreement to which the House had insisted and asked a committee of conference.

On motion of Mr. Goodhue—

Resolved, that the Senate concur with the House of Representatives in the appointment of a committee of conference upon the disagreement of the two Houses on the Senate's amendment to said bill.

Ordered, that Messrs. Renton, Brown and Comerford be joined to said committee on the part of the Senate.

Ordered, that the Clerk notify the House of Representatives accordingly.

Mr. Johnson, from the committee on the Judiciary to whom was referred the bill entitled "An act to amend the laws relating to the transfer of personal property by mortgage," reported it with an amendment, adding at the close of the fourth section the words following "under the provisions of this act relative to the mortgage of personal property liable to attachment and execution."

On motion of Mr. Goodhue

Ordered, that the bill and proposed amendment lie upon the table.

Mr. Gregg, from the same committee, to whom was referred the bill entitled "An act altering the places and establishing the times and places for holding Courts of Probate in the county of Grafton," reported it without amendment.

On the question, shall this bill be read a third time?

It was decided in the affirmative.

Ordered, that it be read a third time to-morrow at ten o'clock in the forenoon.

The Senate proceeded to the order of the day on the bill entitled "An act altering the places and establishing the times and places for holding Courts of Probate in the county of Grafton," Which was read a third time.

Resolved, that it pass and its title be as aforesaid.

Ordered, that the Clerk notify the House of Representatives accordingly.

On motion of Mr. Goodhue

The Senate resumed the consideration of the bill entitled "An act to amend the laws relating to the transfer of personal property by mortgage," together with the amendment thereto propoed by the committee on the Judiciary, adding at the close of the

fourth section the words following-"under the provisions of this act relative to the mortgage of personal property liable to attach ment and execution."

On the question, shall this amendment be adopted?

It was decided in the affirmative.

On the question, shall this bill be read a third time?
It was decided in the affirmative.

On motion of Mr. Goodhue

Resolved, that the rules of the Senate be so far suspended, that this bill be read a third time at the present time.

Said bill was accordingly read a third time.

Mr. Brown moved that the further consideration thereof be indefinitely postponed,

Which was decided in the negative.

Resolved, that it pass and its title be as aforesaid.

Mr. Gregg, from the committee on the Judiciary, to whom was referred the bill entitled "An act authorizing aliens to hold real estate," reported it with an amendment, inserting in the tenth line of the bill, after the words "as if he was a native citizen," the following proviso-"Provided, that such alien shall have previ ously applied to the lawful authority of this State to become a naturalized citizen of the United States, and shall have complied with all the requirements of the law in such cases made and provided."

On the question, shall this amendment be adopted.
It was decided in the affirmative.
