On motion of Mr. Quincy of Rumney of the House—

Resolved, that the amended returns from said towns, as also the return of votes from the town of Northumberland, be re-committed to the select committee appointed to receive the returns of votes for Electors of President and Vice President.

The Convention proceeded to open, read and record the returns of votes for Electors of President and Vice President, received from the towns of Society Land and Dalton; and having completed the same,

On motion of Mr. Quincy of Rumney of the House

Resolved, that the returns of votes from Society Land and Dalton be referred to the select committee appointed to receive the returns of votes for Electors of President and Vice President, with instructions to include said returns in their report of votes returned.

On motion of Mr. Gregg of the Senate

The Convention rose and the Senate returned to their Chamber.

AFTERNOON.

A message from the House of Representatives by their Clerk:

"Mr. President-The House of Representatives have appointed Messrs. Perkins of Allenstown, Lathrop, and Stevens of Lyman, with such as the Senate may join, a committee for the purpose of fixing upon a day on which the business of the present session may be brought to a close; in which they ask the concurrence of the Honorable Senate."

On motion of Mr. Brown

Resolaed, that the Senate concur with the House of Represen tatives in the appointment of a joint select committee to fix a day for the close of the present session.

Ordered, that Mr. Brown be joined to said committee on the part of the Senate.

Ordered, that the Clerk notify the House of Representatives accordingly.

Mr. Renton, from the committee on Incorporations to whom was referred the bill entitled "An act to change the name of the town of Coventry to Benton, reported it without amendment. On the question, shall this bill be read a third time?

It was decided in the affirmative.

Ordered, that it be read a third time to-morrow at ten o'clock in the forenoon.

Mr. Renton, from the same committee to whom was referred the bill entitled "An act to sèver a lot of land, number one hundred and fifty, owned and occupied by Elhanan Winchester, from the town of Stark in the county of Coos, and annex the same to the town of Lancaster," reported it without amendment.

On the question, shall this bill be read a third time.

It was decided in the affirmative.

Ordered, that it be read a third time to-morrow at ten o'clock in the forenoon.

IN CONVENTION.

The Senate and House of Representatives being assembled in Convention in the Representatives' Hall, for the purpose of proceeding in the elections agreeably to the laws of the State,

On motion of Mr. Baker of Hillsborough of the HouseResolved, that the subpoena served upon the town clerk of Northumberland be referred to the select committee to whom

were referred the returns of votes for Electors of President and Vice President of the United States, with instructions to report the facts, if any exist, in excuse of the absence of said town clerk.

Mr. Gregg of the Senate, from the select committee to whom were referred the returns of votes given in the several towns and places in this State, for Electors of President and Vice President of the United States, with instructions to compare and cast their numbers and report to the Convention thereon, made the following

And John W. Weeks, Stephen Perley, Samuel Hatch, Andrew Pierce, jr., John Scott, Francis Holbrook and Samuel Burns are chosen Electors of President and Vice President of the United States.

The foregoing report having been read,

On motion of Mr. Goodhue of the Senate

The Convention rose and the Senate returned to their Chamber.

IN SENATE.

A message from the House of Representatives by their Clerk:

"Mr. President-The House of Representatives have appointed Messrs. Warner of Whitefield, Chamberlain of Keene, and Leavitt of Gilmanton, with such as the Senate may join, a committee to wait upon His Excellency the Governor and inform him that John W. Weeks, Stephen Perley, Samuel Hatch, Andrew Pierce, jr., John Scott, Francis Holbrook and Samuel Burns, have been duly elected, by the people of this State, Electors of President and Vice President of the United States; in which they ask the concurrence of the Honorable Senate."

On motion of Mr. Gregg

Resolved, that the Senate concur with the House of Representatives in the appointment of a joint select committee to notify the Governor of the election of Electors.

Ordered, that Mr. Pickering be joined to said committee on the part of the Senate.

Ordered, that the Cterk notify the House of Representatives accordingly.

A message from the House of Representatives by their Clerk:

"Mr. President-The House of Representatives have appoin ted Messrs. Woods, Mason of Sullivan and Richardson of Candia, with such as the Senate may join, a committee to select and prepare some suitable place in which the Electors of President and Vice President may meet, and inform them thereof; in which they ask the concurrence of the Honorable Senate."

On motion of Mr. Goodhue

Resolved, that the Senate concur with the House of Represen tatives in the appointment of a joint select committee to select and prepare some suitable place in which the Electors of President and Vice President may meet, and notify them thereof.

Ordered, that Mr. Comerford be joined to said committee on the part of the Senate.

Ordered, that the Clerk notify the House of Representatives accordingly.

SATURDAY, NOV. 28, 1840.

On motion of Mr. Goodhue

Resolved, that the rules of the Senate be so far suspended, that when the Senate adjourn this forenoon, it be to meet again on Monday next at four o'clock in the afternoon.

Mr. Pickering, from the joint select committee appointed to notify His Excellency the Governor of the election of Electors of President and Vice President of the United States, reported that they had attended to the duty assigned them.

On motion of Mr. Comerford

The Senate adjourned.

MONDAY, NOV. 30, 1840.

Hon. James H. Johnson, Senator from District No. 12, appeared and took his seat.

The Senate proceeded to the order of the day on bills with the following titles:

"An act to sever a lot of land number one hundred and fifty, owned and occupied by Elhanan Winchester from the town of Stark in the county of Coos, and annex the same to the town of Lancaster."

"An act to change the name of the town of Coventry to Benton."

Which were severally read a third time,

Resolved, that they pass and that their titles be as aforesaid. Ordered, that the Clerk notify the House of Representatives accordingly.

A message from the House of Representatives by their Clerk:

"Mr. President-The House of Representatives have passed bills and resolutions with the following titles, in which they ask the concurrence of the Honorable Senate :

"An act in favor of the Artillery company in the thirty-second Regiment, New Hampshire Militia.”
