PROCEEDINGS OF THE CONVENTION

CALLED FOR THE PURPOSE OF FORMING A

STATE BAR ASSOCIATION

HELD IN CASE HALL, CLEVELAND

JULY 8TH AND 9TH, 1880

The delegates to a general state convention, having for its object the formation of a State Bar Association, assembled in Case Hall, in the city of Cleveland, at 10 o'clock A. M. on the 8th day of July, 1880, pursuant to the invitation of the Cleveland Bar Association, issued in accordance with the following resolutions adopted by that association on the 8th day of May, 1880.

Resolved, That a committee of three be appointed, of which the corresponding secretary shall be chairman, to correspond with the several bar associations of the state, and with prominent members of the bar of counties, where there are no bar associations, upon the subject of forming a State Bar Association, and to appoint a time and place for the holding of a convention for the organization of such state association, and to request each of the local bar associations to send delegates to the said proposed state convention, one delegate for every ten members of such local association, and that the members of the bar of each county where there are no associations be requested also to send delegates upon the same basis of representation, and that the bar of any county having less than ten members be entitled to one delegate.

Rufus P. Ranney, of Cleveland, was named as temporary chairman of the convention and delivered the address of welcome. (See Appendix.)
