THE QUARTER-CENTENNIAL.

THE quarter-centennial celebration has come and gone. It was an occasion of special interest to the writer; for, in thought at least, if not in name, he could link with it the commemoration of his own quarter-centennial of service in Muhlenberg College. In the providence of God, it has been his privilege to grow gray in its service, for he has been connected with it continuously from the beginning, and has devoted his entire active life, such as it has been, since his graduation from our Theological Seminary, to its interests. In his own person he has lived through all its trials and struggles, its triumphs and victories. Twenty-five years of toils and prayers, of tears and labors, with the precious rewards of their kind, which God has granted, constitute no insignificant part of his life and experience. Surely, in view of this fact, the reader will pardon him for this personal reference.

The celebration was interesting, also, and remarkable, for the fact that all who have occupied the presidency of the College during its entire history were able to be present and to participate together in its observance. They rejoiced with one accord, in heart and mind, at what God had wrought. They could praise the Lord that He had at length brought the institution, which for years had been the object of their cares and prayers, out of much tribulation to this day of jubilee.

They were spared, with others who had been associated with them in the faculty for many years, to see the fruits of their toils.
