LAWN TENNIS. The at'ona! championships for men in lawn tennis were held at Newport, R. I., Aug. 21 and following days. With a record breaking entry of 117 for the singles, the tournament was the biggest ever held in this country. In the final round W. J. Clothier, of Philadelphia, met Karl H. Behr, of Morristown, N. J., and beat him by P-2, 6-4, 6-2. In the challenge round Clothier beat B. C. Wright, of Bos ton, holder of the previous year, by 6-3, 6-0, 6-4. In the doubles F. B. Alexander and H. H. Hackett, winners of the Eastern championship, beat L. H. Waidner and Nat Emerson, Western champions, by default. In the challenge round B. C. Wright and Holcombe Ward, former holders of the championship title, beat |
