PREFACE.

IN the preparation of the Merchant of Venice, the Editor has omitted a few passages which, on the score of delicacy, were unsuitable for young readers. Amongst the books which he has consulted, he gratefully acknowledges his obligations to Abbott's Shakespearian Grammar, Craik's English of Shakespeare, Morris's Historical Accidence of the English Language, Knight's Edition, and the 'Cambridge' Shakespeare.
