In compliance with orders I respectfully submit the follow Patriotism, love of country, these are the principles for which the members of our organization volunteered their services during the Spanish War, and which citizens of other countries throughout the world have been called upon to manifest when their country was in danger. Any citizen who shows his patriotism and love of country by offering his services in time of war, and who is willing to sacrifice his life if need be for his country and his patriotic ideals, could do no more honorable act or deed in life. Since accepting the office of Patriotic Instructor I have been called on several different occasions for my opinion. To answer some of the questions I have had to consult the book, but nevertheless, I have answered all correctly. The occasions include churches, lodges, clubs, as well as individuals. I regret that I have been unable to accompany the Department Commander on all his visitations. Having been connected with the State Guard it kept me somewhere about all the time. I can report, however, that patriotism has been demonstrated up to the requirements by the people of New England. JUST REMEMBER. The boys across the water are brave as boys can be. EAST BOSTON, MASS., April 24, 1919. TIMOTHY W. KELLY, Department Commander, Department of Massachusetts, U. S. W. V. SIR: In compliance with General Orders No. 6, Series No. 1918-19, dated April 10, 1919, I have the honor to submit the following report as First Assistant Department Adjutant for the term ending April 27, 1919. Having been previously elected and appointed to various offices in connection with the Department, the Municipal Council and Camp 3, I was appointed by you to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Comrade Columbus, that of First Assistant Department Adjutant. Though about all my available time has been taken up with Department, Council and Camp activities, I managed to devote some of it to the duties assigned me by the Department Adjutant, one of which was assuming the custody and distribution of the surplus badges to be sold throughout the Department for 15 cents apiece, the proceeds from same to be added to the legislative fund. Camps having made returns to date: 3, 6, 18, 27, 38, 42, 44, 48, 50 and 52. Camps not as yet having made reports: 1, 4, 7, 9, 15, 20, 23, 25, 28, 30, 32, 36, 48, 50, 53 and 56. In view of the fact that a large number of Camps have as yet made no returns, I have filed with the Department Adjutant an itemized account of distribution and receipts from same for future adjustment.
