PROCLAMATION. The National Council of the Cherokee Nation, the 19th day of November, 1874, passed an Act authorizing the Principal Chief to appoint three Commissioners "to revise, amend and codify the existing laws, and prepare such other new laws as the advanced condition of the Cherokee Nation demands." Messrs. WILLIAM P. BOUDINOT, D. H. Ross and JOSEPH A. SCALES were accordingly appointed, and submitted the result of their labors to the National Council at its annual session, the 1st Monday in November, 1874. After careful consideration, the National Council accepted and enacted, with the approval of the Principal Chief, so much thereof as may be found embraced in this volume, and which, in accordance with authority, is published and proclaimed as the Code of Laws in force in the Cherokee Nation, from and after the first day of November, 1875, and until amended or repealed by proper authority. The Act of Union, the Constitution and amendments thereto, have been carefully compared with authorized copies, and are believed to be strictly correct. Seal WILL. P. ROSS, Principal Chief.
