He will make a bizarre figure. You will see at once he is a praecox as well as feebleminded. The alcoholic will draw with the coarse ataxic tremor. The drug fiend will draw with a fine line and tremor. The first two on this card are epilepsy and the last three are drugs. Here you will see the praecox draws a very poor, bizarre figure. The last two on this sheet are of paresis or softening of the brain, and finally hysteria on this last page a very queer figure.

When these were shown before the Academy of Medicine in New York, one of the doctors said that he had discovered that the hysterics drew a very bizarre figure. Dr. Paton said he had observed that the praecox had this peculiarity and published it ten years ago. But none of these men knew that all these defectives have a characteristic drawing, peculiar to the state of mentality, whether feebleminded, praecox, drug victim, alcoholic or what-not. In the last report of the Court we published over two hundred of these drawings by as many different individuals. Look at the bizarre character of some of these drawings. Look at this one, and remember that this girl thinks she is drawing a box and square. If any of you would care for the report of the Psychopathic Laboratory, I would be glad to send it to you if you will give me your address, because I think it is extremely important for the legal profession to give attention to this field of inquiry. We have these defectives in every city and in every little town. Every little town has its "Crazy Ed.," so that it is of national importance. Now, if we can segregate or sterilize these defective stocks for from one to two generations, we will lessen crime and turn the insane asylums into plow factories. While we have been importing fine animals from France, Scotland, Belgium and England, we have been opening our ports not only to the good stocks of Europe that have helped us to win this war, but to large numbers of defectives. We will have to close the doors to these latter. That is one of the first things we must do. (Long continued applause).

D. C. HENDERSON, of Lima: As a mark of appreciation for the able address just delivered to us, I move that this address, both interesting and able, be printed in the regular records of the Association.

Motion seconded and carried by a unanimous rising vote.

JUDGE OLSON: If you intend to print my remarks I wish you would permit me to add some notes on cases illustrating that it is possible to anticipate crime on the basis of the diagnosis.
