On the moral effects of theatrical entertainments, various papers may be found in the works of Rousseau. Upon this question, he had attacked D'Alembert for blaming the Genevese, in an article in the Encyclopædia, for prohibiting plays. The latter defended himself and the stage in his fine "Lettres sur la Liberté de la Musique."
