CHARITIES AND PROBATION; DEPENDENT, NEG-
LECTED AND DELINQUENT CHILDREN.

CHAPTER 318.

BOARD OF CHARITIES AND PROBATION.

SEC. 7287. Appointment; constitution; term. The board of charities and probation shall consist of five persons, at least one of whom shall be a woman. The term of office of each member shall be five years. The governor shall annually, in the month of January, appoint a member of said board. One member of said board shall be designated by the governor as chairman.

SEC. 7288. Expenses. The members of said board shall serve without compensation but their necessary expenses when away from home on official business shall be paid by the state.

SEC. 7289. Offices; equipment. Said board shall be provided with offices in the state capitol or in some other suitable building in Montpelier, in which its records shall be kept.

State Probation Officer.

SEC. 7290.* Secretary; salary. The board, with the approval of the governor, shall appoint and may remove a secretary and fix his salary, which, together with his necessary expenses while away from home on official business, shall be paid by the state on vouchers approved by the board.

SEC. 7291. Executive officer; records. Said secretary shall be the executive officer of said board, shall keep and have in his charge its records, and shall devote his entire time to the duties of his office.

SEC. 7292. Authority throughout state. Said secretary, as the executive officer of said board, shall be the state probation officer and shall have jurisdiction throughout the state.

SEC. 7293. Powers, duties, etc. The powers, duties, authority, rights and liabilities given to and imposed upon probation officers prior to June first, nineteen hundred and seventeen, are hereby given, granted and imposed upon the state probation officer and all persons before such date committed to the care and custody of the several probation officers in
