I congratulate you on the consummation of much good feeling, and the many endearing relations which have necessarily arisen and resulted from our daily intercourse, and social and legislative co-operations within this hall, and hope the many happy remembrances here created may prove to be of everlasting endurance. I embrace this, the last occasion on which I shall have the honor of addressing you from this chair, to make my grateful acknowledgment for the uniform courtesy and kindness you have extended towards me as your presiding officer. Difficult and trying as has been the position, its labors have been greatly diminished by the timely and cordial support you have so generously given me. The dignity and decorum that have marked your deliberations during the present session, will compare most favorably with any of your predecessors. To this fact, I attribute whatever of success I may have attained in this chair. The vote of thanks which you have this day so generously given to me, and the attention, assistance and councils which you have tendered me in times of perplexity and doubt, during our sittings, gives to me the assurance that my administration has been acceptable to you, and for that I thank you. I have throughout the session sought most earnestly to do equal and exact justice to all individuals, parties and sections, and if I have failed in the purpose through error or prejudice, I now crave your pardon. Trusting, gentlemen, that our deliberations here may realize for this terrritory the most prosperous development of all its immense resources, and meet out to all sections their just and equal rights, as far as within our power to procure them, and invoking upon you through life the richest rewards for your labors in behalf of your several constituencies, and your kindest apparent regards for your speaker, I bid you farewell, and perform my last official act, by declaring the eighth session of the legislative assembly of Nebraska adjourned sine die.
