FORM OF A QUARTER-MASTER'S BOND. Know all persons by these presents, that we are holden and stand firmly bound and obliged unto his Excellency Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia for the use of said Commonwealth, in the penal sum of $7000 specie, for which payment well and truly to be made to said Governor for the time being, and his successors in office, we bind ourselves and each of us, our heirs, executors and administrators, and each and every of them for and in the whole, jointly and severally, and firmly by these presents-Signed with our hands and sealed with our seals this day of 182 in the year of American independence. is Regiment of Virgishall well and THE Condition however of this obligation is such, That whereas the above bound appointed Quarter-master of the nia Militia. NOW, if the said truly execute and faithfully discharge, according to law and to instructions received by him from proper authority, his duties as Quarter-master aforesaid, and he, his heirs, executors or administrators, shall regularly account when thereunto required, for all monies received by him, from time to time, as Quarter-master aforesaid, with such person or persons as shall be duly authorised and qualified on the part of the Commonwealth for that purpose, and moreover pay into the Treasury of the state, such balance, as on a final settlement of said accounts, shall be found justly due from him to the said Commonwealth; and shall faithfully account to the Ordnance Department, for all arms, accoutrements and ammunition, which shall in any manner come to his hands; then this obligation shall be null, void and of no effect; otherwise to remain and be in full force and virtue. PAY, SUBSISTENCE, AND FORAGE, IN 1815. Paymasters of the corps of artillery, same pay as regimental paymasters. Women (in the proportion of one to every seventeen men,) a ration in kind, also to matrons and nurses allowed in hospitals. NOTE -Though forage may be allowed for the number of horses noted, yet money in lieu thereof cannot. A distinction should therefore be drawn, say foruge money for one horse only, to all those of the staff, who have not been entitled, heretofore, to more than ten dollars per month. The brigade major, aid to a brigadier, and adjutant, are expressly limited to that. The allowance of forage in kind, hay, oats and corn, may be made to as many horses in actual service as the War Department directs. s 2 |
