fils ainė, 62, Faubourg Poissonnière, largely patronized by Americans. The best market for Indian shawls is at Paris, and the best house the Compagnie des Indes, 80, Rue de Richelieu. This house sells at wholesale to nearly all the leading London and New York retailers, and enjoys the highest reputation for the character of its goods and the reasonableness of the prices.

Paris is an excellent, but dear market for curiosities and bric-a-brac. Some of these shops in the Latin Quarter are very interesting. As a market for old and curious books Paris has been greatly overrated. The best collection of autographs for sale will be found in the Latin Quarter, the best dealers being the two Charavays, whose addresses may be easily found in the Directory.

Prague, p. 493.—Bohemian glass. There are several good houses. Garnet jewellery, better and cheaper than elsewhere. Gloves, called kid," but made of lamb-skin like those of Naples, very good and cheap.

ROME, p. 567.—The articles purchased here by tourists are, paintings, original and copies of the masters, statuary, mosaic, jewellery, cameos, Roman scarves. Ciilotti, 95, Piazza di Spagna, is a well-known and reliable dealer in paintings. Louis Rosi, 82, Piazza di Spagna, is admittedly at the head of his profession as a cutter of cameos. Gallandt, 7, Piazza di Spagna, has the largest assortment of Roman mosaics. Bianci, 82, Piazza della Minerva, is the largest manufacturer of scarves. There are many large jewellers, first among whom is the celebrated Castellani, whose shop should be visited.

SORRENTO, p. 627.-Wood-work, inlaid, boxes, &c. The principal manufactories may all be visited in a short walk from either of the hotels. Silk hosiery is a specialty of Sorrento, and is very good and cheap.

SPA, p. 272.—The Spa wood-work resembles that of Sorrento. It is made generally in the form of fancy boxes.

ST. GALL.-Swiss embroideries, very beautiful and cheap. Best house, Adolphe Naef.

ST. PETERSBURG, p. 672.-Beautiful silver table-ware. Malachite jewellery and ornaments. For names of reliable houses it is

safe to consult Mr. Schmitz of the Hotel d'Angleterre, or the proprietor of either of the best hotels.

TURIN, p. 521.-Remarkable imitations of diamonds and other precious stones, Fratelli Panighetti, No. 10, Via di Po. Vermouth, Italian wines.

Dr. Salviati (trading also as Salviati and Co.) has a place of business on the Grand Canal, next door to the Grand Hotel. Antiquities, curiosities, and objets d'art. -M. Guggenheim, Grand Canal, whose collection, one of the

largest and best in Europe, is one of the attractions of Venice. Antiquities of every description, gallery of old and modern pictures, manufactory of furniture' and foundry of bronzes in different styles. M. Guggenheim executes also every kind of wall decoration, interior architecture, and complete furniture. Photographs. The best shops are in St. Mark's Square. The machine resembling a large camera, for magnifying photographic pictures, and called the Megalethoscope, is a specialty of Venice; but it has ceased to be esteemed, cheaper and better instruments having been devised in both Europe and America.

VIENNA, p. 485.-The ornamental leather and bronze work of Vienna is much esteemed. It is made in great variety. The largest house is Kleins, in the Graben, but his prices are very high. There are many smaller and more moderate houses in the Graben and adjoining streets. Meerschaum goods are manufactured in Vienna on a large scale. The ornamental stationery of Vienna is very beautiful and cheap.

ZURICH, p. 349.-Lace curtains, muslin embroideries, edgings, &c., &c., are made in great quantities near Zurich, and are sold by many dealers in the town at very low prices.
